best rack i’ve ever used and cant recommend highly enough
i had a cheap rack on my bike that broke the same month i purchased it. i rigged it to work for what i needed but one day coming home it broke completely and almost took my tire with it. i went online and after several hours looking i came across this one. seeing it says it can hold 310lbs and looked much sturdier than what i had i figured why not its cheap enough. took about 30 minutes to install because my bike doesnt use standard piping. i got it adjusted to the height i needed and wrenched it down, using the included rubber bits that help keep the supports in place. i took it out immediately for a much needed grocery run and loaded up my bags that i had attached to it and set off for home. 7 mile round trip with about 60lbs worth of goods and it didnt show any signs of give and kept solid on the bike. i’ve even transported other people on it without issue. a friend of mine needed to get to the store up the way from where we lived and while he thought i was joking when i offered him a lift, he finally got on and he’s not light. he says he’s 210lbs, he felt like more. took some effort to get where he needed to go but we got there and there wasnt a single issue with the rack. it didnt bend or buckle or even sway. i have to believe its claim at 300lb+ capacity as i’ve thrown everything i could at it since i got it and my bike has shown more issues than the rack ever has. absolutely worth it, and it works great with bikes that dont have eyelets for standard rack installs. my bike is a cheap fixed gear with no standard mounting options for anything and this has been the best investment for it yet.

Rock-solid bike rack
First, the pros: the bike rack is rock-solid and has a very sleek black finish. If it were bigger, it could be the framework for a tornado shelter. It seems far and away the sturdiest rack I’ve found. It was really nice that the package came with all of the parts, of which there were many. I can believe the 310-pound capacity claim, but any biker with the muscle power to pedal with that much weight is a candidate for Everest anyway. Finally, the rack has enough surface area to strap all kinds of stuff on. Cons: the assembly guide is minimal and leaves out several steps. Fortunately, for anyone with experience assembling stuff (IKEA, for example), the steps can all be figured out. It helped to lay the parts out and visualize how they would go together. Also, a couple of YouTube videos show portions of the assembly from a distance, so that was something. The assembly took about an hour and 15 minutes for me, but I might be more deliberate than most. Bottom line: it’s definitely worth the money.

WHAT A PITA TO INTALL! (but holy moly this thing is strong!)
No lie: I had to watch a video—at .25x speed—really, and read the manual, and find some other video, and look on the Amazon reviews for clues. This is not *hard* to put together, but if you don’t know how to put it together it is like rocket science. The manual is (almost) useless, and the “official video” shows a different product! But even so, if you have half an hour and a LOT of patience, once you get **successfully** about ten minutes into the process, everything starts to make sense.PRO TIP (hindsight): just focus on one side. The long trust go in the back and the short ones go up front. The rubber pads go against your bike frame. The rest is just watching videos.Okay, so (if you have read this far), since you have it mostly in place—assemble it 90% tightened down, adjust it, and then go back and clamp it down hard. After that part, this is really strong. In hindsight it is well worth the pita installation if you do it carefully because the flimsiness of assembly really allows you to customize the fit. Once you lock it down you could probably stand on it (but please don’t). This allows me to carry a LOT more weight on the bike, which makes the road bike far more useful for short trips.As to “size,” think “large brown paper grocery bag” (the kind you double-bag) can “mostly” fit on this. Or you could just lash a square milk crate to this thing and have a huge back basket. In any case, yeah, it’s great once you get it installed and kick it once or twice for being a pita.

I originally bought it after destroying two cheaper racks. Every time I left my bike parked on the street, people would sit on the rear rack as if it were a chair. By the time I came back, it would be bent.I decided to stop buying cheap racks and bought this one instead. Seven years later, I can say it has been one of the best purchases I’ve made for my bike.I live in Bogotá, Colombia, where it rains frequently and humidity is part of daily life. This rack has been exposed to the elements for years and has held up remarkably well. No structural issues, no noticeable corrosion, and no signs that it’s anywhere near the end of its life.It has carried everything I’ve thrown at it: groceries, a permanently mounted market basket, my Thule laptop bag with my computer and work gear, and plenty of weight over the years. It’s been used almost as a utility rack rather than a bicycle accessory.The unexpected bonus? It’s so solid that even when people inevitably sit on it, I don’t worry anymore.The photos are from today, after seven years of real-world use. I don’t treat my equipment gently—I buy things expecting them to last. This rack has exceeded those expectations.If you’re comparing it to cheaper alternatives, consider this: buying one rack for seven years is much cheaper than buying three or four that bend or rust.I would absolutely buy it again. The problem is, I suspect this one will outlive my bike.

The rack is awesome, instructions and packaging, not so much
So far I do love this rack. It is clearly very sturdy and durable. Actual installation is fairly easy once you assemble everything as far as the instructions assume when you receive the item. Not to beat a dead horse, but the instructions (“instruction”) are hilarious and essentially useless. Like it would have killed them to pay a college student $50 to translate and/or write them. Moreover, the photos aren’t detailed enough to answer a couple important assembly questions one will have. The packaging is pretty comical, and one of the hardware bags had a rip in it, so I had bolts and washers cascading all over as I began removing the bubble wrap from everything. I wondered whether I received one that had been a return or at least previously opened. Also, the reflector that came with it was broken. I didn’t bother super gluing it back together as my existing reflector happened to fit on the bracket. I think most people would have just returned the item because of that. Initial assembly was pretty complicated because there weren’t even numbers of any of the hardware items. I assumed some of the items were extra, which was only true of the lock nuts and washers. The hex cap bolts didn’t make a lot of sense in quantities, and I had to mix and match a bit to figure out which length I should use for everything. There were 8 bolts that were really too long for any spot they were needed, so those were the ones I used to secure the bed of the rack to the supports. Bolts sticking out underneath/inside that area shouldn’t be a problem. I do recommend that you just buy a new set of hex cap bolts that are overall a bit shorter than the ones included. I might do that eventually and swap them all out. Once I got everything assembled to the level the instructions assume you receive it, then the remaining installation was pretty easy. The only question is which side to install the two main support arms. They have a rail for attaching the extra center support, and it is not symmetrically placed. Picking the right side does seem to matter. I think neither option is actually good, as that extra arm doesn’t really line up properly no matter which side the main arm is on. Depending on how far back and how high you place the main tray, that extra arm doesn’t really seat properly once tightened. I considered not installing that at all, since I don’t think it is really necessary. I would definitely install it if you do plan to load the rack up with 100 pounds of gear. I expect to have 20 pounds of gear on it at most. Now it is installed and in use on a Cannondale Treadwell 2.

Works with my Fat Tire Bike! Mongoose Argus Trail!
I installed this rack on a Mongoose Argus Trail fat bike. Not sure why it isn’t listed for fat bikes but it worked fine. No modification, no added hardware, or swapping out parts. It worked great. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I attached several pictures…you be the judge! I just installed it so I cannot speak to durability. Mine also came with some scratches. It should be packed in a box to protect it. Outside of some cosmetic issues I was one of the lucky ones that didn’t have fabrication issues. Let me say this about the instructions….they suck, plain and simple! They do not have enough detail and contradict itself. For example, one pic shows to fasten one of the support ends on the inside on one of the other support arms only to find that later it should be fastened on the outside which makes a huge difference when fitting to your bike. Needs improvement in my opinion! Other than that Im happy with my purchase. A must for a person looking to do a fishing bike build! Oh that weight number is crap, don’t fall for it…this is not strong enough to trust sitting 220lbs on it. I wouldn’t trust it to hold more that 40lbs, 50lbs at best!

This rack (from this seller) is good. Very sturdy but as many pointed out, the instructions are really bad. Some of the screws that came with it were of different lengths. At first I though these go on the lower brackets but then realized it was just a picking error during product packing. Maybe they don’t have a good QC system in place. Either way I was able to install it without any issues.Another Quality issue I saw was one of the braces under the rack. If you turn the rack upside down you’ll see three main braces that are welded and each have a screw that acts as a set screw. These screws allow you to slide the rack back and forth. One of the braces (middle one) was not aligned before welded. Not a big deal but you can tell quality is not there.In case you’re wondering, I installed this on a Rad Rover 5. The saddle must be in a relatively high position for this to work unless you remove the rear fender. As you can see from the picture, the screw heads in the bottom of the rack almost touch the fender. One solution would be to find low profile screws to replace these, or remove the middle screw and only keep front and rear set screws to lock the rack in position. If you do this you’ll be able to keep saddle or post in a lower position.Also the grab handle won’t work with the RR5. I ended up tying it up to the center support with heavy duty zip ties but the handle hit my back when riding. My solution is going to modify the handle assembly so its a straight post and will attach it to the center support with longer screws.Finally, the foot rests dont work on a RR5. I purchased some other ones and screwed them on to the frame. I will build a custom solution for my kid’s leg comfort.Giving it 3 stars because materials and workmanship wasn’t strong. Instructions aren’t good. One star deducted for each category.

Perfect for eBike
I ignored all the rules and didn’t use all the included parts. I thought this was a great rack for my new $600 Velotric Fold 1Lite folding ebike with small wheels. The next model Velotric Fold 1 (with a rear rack) was $700 more with slightly better motor so I saved $$$$$. I connected this rack direct to the the connectors on the Fold 1. As you can see in the pics it looks like it was made for my bike. FWIW the instructions ARE as bad as reported.
