Hidden Bolt Is A Bad Idea & Like HEAVY rings?
This chainring with a hidden 5th bolt is just a bad idea by SRAM to make their chainring totally non-standard & proprietary so that you must buy replacements from them. Advantages? Not only are there no advantages (unless looking at 5 chainring bolts is revulsive to you) , the chainring weighs 132 grams which puts it into the heavy weight category. The standard SRAM 11 speed X-Glide chainring weighs 92 grams & costs less so this is a marketing ploy only a Nazi could love because SRAM has German roots. I am sure the SRAM engineers are seething that they were forced to make this mother of bad biking ideas with the hidden bolt. And talk about aesthetics, its as ugly as it gets and you look at it and tell me you don’t agree. Oh, what if after a while the hidden bolt gets corroded and the press fit thread insert starts to slip so you can’t get the ring off? Yup, you throw the whole crank away so nice going SRAM with an unrepairable design fault to top it off. Like the standard 5 bolt design had so many problems with it, what were these people thinking? Yeh, they fixed a non problem and created a bunch of problems. Oh, I forgot, want to change to a smaller ring size like the popular 46T? Forget about it. And forget using the hidden bolt cranks that SRAM came up with.

Read before buying!
This chainring is a universal fit for both hidden (one bolt behind the crankarm) and standard (all chainring bolts accessible from both sides) cranksets.There are two outer guide pins installed (the pin that keeps the chain from getting jammed between the crank arm and spider, should the chain ever come off of the outer ring while riding. The guide pin that is not used needs to be punched out, and a plastic cap (included in the package) inserted in it’s place.If your crankset is the hidden bolt type, you need to remove the pressed in nut from the old chainring, using the proper press tool, or bang it out with a hammer and backing plate, with a piece of wood or metal between the hammer and nut. this nut then needs to be pressed in to the proper hole in the new chairing, in the proper orientation (the flange of the nut on the outer side)If you are not comfortable with performing these steps, you are much better off having the job done at your local bike shop.

Missing hidden bolt, just be aware
Came without hidden bolt, had to cut out the one from old chainring and slap it together like some ghetto mechanic.Needed the part asap, didn’t have the time to send it back.I guess the fact that this price is a bit better than most means you don’t get the complete product.Otherwise the part is in good condition.

OEM replacement
My old chainring was worn out, so it was time to renew. I had switched cranks, so appreciated another review showing that I could use the chain pick up pin in one of two positions. Installed and runs like new.
