Nice inexpensive shifter to get my 20 year old hardtail back at it.
The bike this went on is the last of the Schwinns made before Pacific bought them, a 2001 Mesa GSX, the only year that got a full Deore (LX) group.My left shifter gave up the ghost, this one was a suitable replacement. It doesn’t feel as nice as my old one and looks kinda cheap too, but then again it WAS cheap and the bike isn’t worth much of anything either more than 20 years after purchase. So, it’s back in service as a rail trail cruiser and lets me keep up with my son. Not much else to ask for. Four stars.

Perfect replacement for front derailleur shifter on an old Raleigh mountain bike. Installation was quick and easy for me as I pretty much have no clue what I am doing but I am learning as I go. I really got a kick out of the chain gliding onto the largest chain wheel as I clicked 1 through 3 and 3 through 1 over and over. The old Shimano shifter had pretty much fallen apart. Maybe it could have been salvaged, I dunno. This was an easy solution to overcome some procrastination and get the bike working. On to tuning…and new handlebar grips.

I cannot claim to be a very experienced biker, but I can say that these were easy to install and work well. The previous originals were broken and only partially worked.I do not have years of experience with other competitors, so I can only fairly rate them 5 star in that they were easy to install, work well and were at a very reasonable price and they are well made.

Slim-profile shifter for easy shifting, compatible with non-Shimano brake levers
My bicycle originally came with grip shifters which I replaced them with shimano thumb shifters (the silver one in the picture), but the thumb shifters stick out on top of the handlebar, which not only looks strange but is also easy to bump into, especially when transporting the bike in the back of my car. This shimano goes under the brake lever so it does not protrude. I was initially concerned about its compatibility with my non-Shimano brake levers, but it fits fine. The shifter works well—I have both sides—and it’s easier to shift compared to a thumb shifter or grip shifter. You use your thumb to shift with the front lever and your index finger for the rear lever, which operates between the handlebar and brake lever. As with most Shimano products, it came in a blue/silver box with the shifter cable pre-installed and a cable end cap included, but no cable housing.

Economical chainring shifter yet indicator doesn’t work
This SL-M315-L shifter fits with the Shimano SLX BL-M7100 brake lever. My bike used a grip-shift for the chainrings, so this shifter was necessary when using the 7100 brake lever.Shifter works fine. The indicator does not. It initially went to 3 yet while chainrings 2 and 1 are used the indicator is at 2.5 position. Sometimes I can pound on the handlebar and the indicator will go from 2.5 to 1 when using 1 chainring. I returned an initially ordered new SL-M315-L shifter because of this condition. This is the 2nd shifter which is repeating the same condition – indicator will not return to 2 or 1.One other observation: The clamp bolt had too much green grease applied to it. See photo. I’m wondering if the inside of the shifter also has too much grease causing the indicator to be sluggish. Possibly a new employee without proper training and monitoring.UPDATE 2022 Aug 10th: The indicator mentioned above in 2nd paragraph is finally working properly. It is moving as one would expect and is consistent. I again say I believe there is too much grease internally which caused this initial lack of proper indicating of the chainring.
