Kool-stop disc pads are made with organic materials that are blended and bound together using a resin. The compounds do include small amounts of metal to improve the braking formula but though this is a mined material the pads are largely organic.

Great Brake pads, cheaper and work just like avid.
I have put 200 hard miles on these pads, i can’t comment on faster wearing, but they definitely work just like the AVID organic pads. they did make a little noise, but after wear in i cleaned rotors with alcohol and it went away.Definitely worth a try for anyone considering.

Kool Stop Avid Elixir Organic Disc Brake Pads
I purchased these to stop the annoying brake noise on my mountain bike equipped with the original Avid brake pads.I installed them carefully and made certain all oils and grease were removed from the rotor. After that I followed the recommmended break in procedure to properly seat the pads.On the trail these were still noisy for a few rides but the noise has since disappeared and I am totally please with their performance.

Good replacement with a little tinkering.
As others have said, this might be a little tight at first. I replaced my stock Elixir R pads with these and had to use a bench grinder to take a little off of each braking surface so that they wouldn’t rub the rotor. After that, everything was fine. They work well and are considerably cheaper than the Avid pads. Just be sure to keep the pad surface and rotor surface clean, or use brake cleaner on them so you don’t ruin the pads.

Worked well, but don’t last very long.
These pads were a very tight fit on installation. I had to pry the pistons out with a screwdriver, which I usually don’t have to do, but I finally got the wheel to spin freely. They performed well. Stopping power was about the same as Avid pads, and they were quiet as well. The reason these went from five stars to three is that they were worn to the clip after 545 miles…on the FRONT brakes! I usually don’t even check them until 600 miles on the front, and I get almost double the miles out of a set of pads. Now that I had the clip metal rubbing against my rotor, I’m concerned that pads will wear even faster.

Easy to install
Easy to install, a little noisy during the first few rides, but stop as good if not better than the OEM pads. Have about 150 miles on these so far and they work great, no brake fade under excessive/prolonged braking. Would definitely buy again!

Kool-Stop pads = among the best
Replacing a SRAM LEVEL brake pad set that was unfortunately oil contaminated. Used on a Trek Farley 5 fat bike for technical XC riding.I have used Kool-Stop pads on canitlever and caliper brakes on nearly all my bikes since the early 2000s. They have always performed better than others, so when my first set of disk brakes had issues, I went with these. After a BKM break-in using water and progressively harder series of stops, these pads settled in great. No squealing, no pulsing, just reliable grab with excellent modulation. After a dozen rides, these brakes are still performinig exactly as expected and overall are working better than the original pads. Would definitely reccommend for replacement pads. Kool-Stop is a small American company that has been in business for years. No affiliation, I just trust their product, and this brake-set is no different.

So far, so good!
I have just had one 3 hour+ ride on these and so far they seem to work great. Brake strength seemed the same as with my previous pads but with no noise. Happy with them and would definitely recommend these.
