Kool-stop disc pads are made with organic materials that are blended and bound together using a resin. The compounds do include small amounts of metal to improve the braking formula but though this is a mined material the pads are largely organic.

Much Better
I bought a 2011 model Giant Roam 1 which came with the Avid BB5 brakes and their stock pads. At first I was content, but then I began to realize that the more the pads broke in, the more they faded during stops. Soon after that they began to howl and squeal like and animal, and after cleaning to factory specs, they would soon continue to do so. They always made my rotor hot enough to burn my fingers. After some extensive research online I found that the Kool Stop pads were the way to go for an upgrade for the stock pads. I ordered and they arrived fast. Installation was simple as they are mechanical brakes. I was immediately surprised at the difference! They were quieter all together, no howling, no squeaking and no grinding noise. They bite harder and stay MUCH cooler, they truly stand up to their name. I would highly recommend these pads to anybody who wants to upgrade from their BB5 pads or any other pads that make too much noise or just simply get too hot.

The advertisement indicated that the pads would be quite. I installed the pads and for a little while the brakes were quiet. Within the first ride the brakes squealed as much as the originals. If you are looking to quiet the squeal look somewhere else.

Stopping is Kool
These pads did the trick on my heavy electric bike. The design seems to be well thought-out. The pads are radiused on the inside (axle) side to avoid having a ridge of unused material left behind as the pad wears. Installation was a snap. Braking action is very firm and controllable without too much noise. No noticeable fade after repeated panic stops.

Good replacement for OEM
So far, for its intended purpose, as a replacement set of brake pads both front and rear BB5 disc brakes on a mountain bike that I thrash (I’m 200+, it’s an aluminum hardtail, I like to bomb rooty/rocky trails)…they are working excellent…much better than the stock pads that I wore out were working, that’s for sure!

Koolest yet
I’ve always loved Kool Stop brake pads for rim brakes and these are just as good for disc brakes. This is the 3rd set of pads on my family cargo bike and these are the best yet at slowing us down smoothly and quietly even on SF hills.
