Works great on 3x
I bought this for my sons trek hard tail mountain bike with a 3×7 drivetrain. The chain didn’t drop easily but we started riding at a downhill bike park with a ski lift and I wanted extra insurance that his chain would stay put. Our first trip to the park before the chain tensioner it dropped twice. The next trip with the tensioner it did not drop the chain what so ever even in the lowest gears, he even wrecked and the bike flopped on its side over rocks, the chain stayed on! We’ve ridden probably 30 miles since install and I can’t find any noticeable wear on the guide. It comes with two for the price this thing is great! Also it is worth noting this isn’t made from typical molded plastic, it is 3D printed and it seems to be much stronger than a normal plastic product due to the varied “grain” or texture of the material.

Worked for eight months
Purchased and installed eight months ago on MTB. It greatly reduced chain slap from excess chain. It comes in two pieces. The top piece mounts to your bike and the bottom piece holds your chain. There is a small bolt that connects these pieces together. It comes with an extra bottom piece as the chain does wear it down over time. My top piece that attaches to the bike is what broke off due to wear. Decent quality but it is plastic so don’t expect to get more then a season out of this product.

Poorly designed
Looked impressive when I got it but when I went to install it, it quickly found its faults. The nut that holds the screw that holds the whole thing together is embedded in a recessed hole. But while the hole is the correct hexagon shape to accept the nut, it is too large so the nut just spins in the hole. Even worse, you can’t get a wrench or socket or anything on the nut to hold it from spinning because the nut is recessed and there is just the slightest gap. Enough of a gap to not hold the nut properly, but not enough of one to get a socket in there. I then tried gluing the nut into the hole hoping it would hold just enough to get the screw out, then install it on the bike. But that didn’t work either. As soon as any tension was applied to the screw, the nut broke loose and spun. I may still try to make this work, using a slightly longer screw and a nylock nut. But as it was designed, it’s a fail from me.

Great product and solution.. my favorite part is the extra guide they throw in. So basically if you’re creative enough you get to fix two bikes for the price of one. I’ve had zero problems and have these on 5 bikes now. Diamondback hatch 2, GT Aggressor, Diamondback hook 24, Schwinn al comp and the neighbor kids huffy lol. Cured the slack in all of them and made them all shift WAY better! Highly recommended. Trusted product.

Installed on my ’17 Rockhopper with 3×8 drivetrain. I noticed the nut that came with it is non locking so I put a bit of blue loctite on the threads. Just went for a 10 mile trail ride today and it did the trick, chain slap lessened and didn’t drop the chain once. It does drag the drivetrain down the tiniest bit, when rotating pedals by hand, but didn’t notice it at all while riding. Not significantly worn after today’s ride. And not noisy in my experience. Added bonus that it comes with a replacement guide.3 weeks later Update: Approximately 80 miles on the bike since installed. Still works awesome and still have the original guide installed. Not a ton of wear to report. Competed in two of our local MTB club’s TT’s with no chain drops, and shifts totally fine. Most of the wear happens on the guide when the chain is covered in sand, so keep your chain clean, and use a decent grit repelling lube and you’ll be mint.

Wear and Tear
Although this is a great idea, my thought process is that this was likely an earlier idea this company has since improved upon. Hence there being a model 2 & 3 out now. This one definitely helps with chain slap, but after a 30 mile ride through some rough terrain, it was enough for me to go ahead and buy the more adjustable and hopefully less restrictive model 3 with rolling *wheels* for the chain to run across.This stationary model 1 helps with chain slap but does not seem at all smooth. I could hear and feel the chain rubbing against it the entire ride, and the bike felt a sluggish overall. (Not discounting that I’m a novice rider). I’m hoping the model 3 will be a big improvement but I won’t know until USPS finally delivers it. This might suit some, but definitely not something I’d want to feel for the next 1000+ miles..

It prevents the chain from hitting the frame very well.
I used the product on my Schwinn project bike. It does the job it is intended to do. It’s obvious that it’s 3D printed but it still feels good. The plastic is soft and malleable but not too much and it’s slippery enough for the chain to slip I’m sure it will get damaged and worn overtime but they sent an extra chain routing piece. I put a little grease on it to make it slip easier. Ultimately it does the job which is prevent the chain from slapping the frame.Update: Took it out to the trail today for a 8 mile ride. There is definitely some wear, I estimate the plastic to last no more than 80 miles until you need to change it. It did an amazing job as keeping the chain put while on decents and jumps, very impressed.

Best value, easy to install
I bought this Quintessentialz Mountain Bike Chain Guide as part of converting my bike from a 3×10 drive to a 1×10. I’m using this with a 32T narrow wide oval chainring, and I kept the same 10-speed chain and rear derailleur. The SRAM X7 derailleur probably has enough tension that I shouldn’t have to worry about it not having a clutch, but it seemed like a good idea to add a guide to help avoid chain slap.Sure there are prettier looking chain guides out there, but you will spend five times as much, if not more, on any of the other options out there. This one works fine, it comes with a replacement guide, it’s made in the USA, and the price can’t be beat by any of the similar style guides I found on Amazon. Plus, you don’t have to break the chain to put it on or to replace the guide on the bracket. It also came with two zip ties to attach it to the chainstay. So far, it’s also holding solidly mounted over the chainstay protector.
