Lightweight; Sleek Look and Color; No Mounting H/W; Limited Fit of Water Bottles;
I ordered this CATEYE BC-400 Bicycle Water Bottle Cage to install on my bike, and use for carrying water bottles with me on my bike rides. This cage has a nice, sleek looking design and color (black)and is very lightweight. However, the design & materials don’t allow for much flexing- thus it is limited as to the water bottle size/style that it can securely carry. I found that a lot of my water bottles would not fit/secure in this cage properly. Another reason for my 3 star review is that the cage does not come with any mounting hardware included. While I think this is a good choice for a water bottle cage (noting the limitations), I think there are better options available at a similar price point.

Solid water bottle for the money
This is good old Cateye quality in the form of a water bottle cage. I’ve been using Cateye products since the first cycle-computer I bought from them in the late nineties. This cage hardens back to that same solid quality. The composite cage is solid enough to be extremely durable, but just flexible enough to “give” if you accidentally drop your bike. Water bottles are held solidly in place for that perfect fit and easily pull out as you ride. The installation was easy and straight forward.This cage looks great, is lightweight, feels great and is a good deal for the money.

Stiff water bottle holder that doesn’t work on all bottles
This water bottle cage is stiff and doesn’t conform to water bottles to hold them securely in place. The cage is also not quite standard size so not all my bottles fit in the holder without rattling.

Quality item
Installation was easy. It did not come with any hardware but that was (and should be) already installed on the bike. It fits a standard bottle tightly and will not let it bounce out on rougher terrain. When the bottle is not there it is unobtrusive and looks good. The material feels heavy duty and should stand up to a lot of abuse.One of the least expensive additions you can make to your bicycle that adds a valuable utility for almost no weight.

Not flexible enough to conform to bottle
I have an unreasonably large number of bottle cages to compare this to (2 per bike x N+1 bikes). This cage has some pros and cons, but I ultimately would not place it in the top half.Pros:- Strong constitution: I don’t see it breaking or snapping- Lightweight, typical of nylon or carbon fiber- Price was reasonable (average) compared to others- Looks niceCons:- It has a very rigid structure: does not flex to fit smaller/larger bottles, so you need a “Goldilocks” size bottle or one that conforms very well to its surroundings. This lack of compatibility and ability to snugly hold a bottle in place is a MAJOR issue.- Does not come with mounting hardware (bolts), which is atypical, but most people probably have the bolts already installed in their frame anyway.- May scratch the finish (or the plastic) on water bottles.

Lightweight, solid fit
This is replacing a (very) old aluminum cage on my (very) old tri-bike. The old cage had worn to the point where it would not longer securely hold a bottle. One came loose during a ride which was actually quite dangerous. This is a perfect it, mounts right up in seconds, and is built of lightweight slightly flexible plastic. It securely holds the water bottle in place (20oz bottle is what I was using in the picture) and it was a great and very necessary replacement to my dated equipment. Highly recommended.

Great bottle cage that excels in form and function
High Quality bottle cage. Made of durable plastic that is very lightweight. I’ve tried metal cages, but they scratch up my water bottles. I’ve tried carbon, but they are too fragile and end up breaking (also carbon is way to expensive)You can’t go wrong with this Cateye bottle cage. About as light as any carbon cage. Very low cost. Will last forever and wont scratch up your bottles. What’s not to love about it?

Well Built, but Design is Not Ideal
This product comes with a single plastic water bottle cage. There is no screws or hardware included.The water bottle cage is well built. The frame is thick and solid. It feels like it will last.The design is kind of unique. It has pro and con.The pro is that the cage is kind of like side entry. Of course water bottle can be inserted and removed from the top. Then from the side, the cage is shaped like letter Y. So water battle can be accessed at an angle from the side.The con is that the cage is very still and not flexible. It is very difficult to insert and remove water bottle. It might work ok with a soft plastic bottle. It doesn’t work well with stiff plastic bottle. And worst is metal bottle, which is very difficult to use with this stiff water bottle cage.As of July 2026, this water bottle cage is $10.95. It is not cheap, for a single water bottle cage. It is well built. And compatibility depends on which water bottle you plan to use it with.
