We think it is pretty evident where our and most rider's preferences are in regards to bottom bracket interfaces. Some frame companies may never go back to a threaded shell but the next best thing is having a bottom bracket that threads into itself in a press-fit shell. If you have a BB86/92 frame that has lunched its bearings, tired of the creaking every time you stand up to put some power to the pedals, or want to start a new build off right, reach for the Wheels Manufacturing BB86/92 and put that groaning bottom bracket to rest. This bottom bracket directly replaces all OEM BB86/92 units and keeps the same overall width as press-fit BB86 bottom brackets. The BB86/92 thread together bottom bracket is a variation on the Wheels Manufacturing well-loved press fit BB86 bottom bracket. Two machined aluminum cups thread together ensuring that the bottom bracket remains stable in the frame increasing bearing life. This also means no more creaking, smoother operation, and quick bearing replacement. Installation couldn't be easier. Remove the press-fit unit, press the drive side cup into your frame, and thread the non-drive cup into the installed cup with a 16-notch bottom bracket tool (Wheels Manufacturing recommends either their own double sided BB wrench, FSA MegaEvo, or Park Tool BBT-29). The Enduro ABEC-3 bearings feature high precision grade 10 chromium steel balls and are within 10/1,000,000 inch round which is twice as round as the industry standard. The 52100 high carbon chromium alloy race go through a vacuum de-gas process for the purest chromium alloy steel, are hardened to R-62, and are extremely tough and very durable. They are then polished to a mirror finish for ABEC-3 precision and noiseless movement and will run smoothly for years. My initial assessment of the BB is that it is really going to be nice and after only a few hundred miles I’ll stick with that. I installed it on my Gravel bike, a Salsa Warbird. I like that it threads together for a press fit. This seems to me that the alignment will be kept and would be a little forgiving to a bottom bracket shell that may be a bit off in manufacturing. It does take its own tool. It is not compatible with Shimano as far at the tool goes.

Rock Solid Bottom Bracket
After 2 years of hard riding my press fit bottom bracket had developed creaks and side to side movement. Installed this bracket and it is rock solid now. I’ve got about 100 miles of Pisgah trails on it so far and it is doing great. Highly Recommend the product!

Better option than PFBB.
Like the fact that this option is better than the PFBB. Loose fitting pressfit after reading online manuals. Would prefer this in your notes instead of buying and then finding out the hard way. Thread fit is better. Works flawlessly. No loose internal bracket issues under load.

Good and bad
I have a thread-together BB on an aluminum frame that installed without an issue. The cranks turn really smoothly. I bought one to install in a carbon shell but for whatever reason, I can’t get them torque enough to where the safety pin on the NDS will engage. The spindle needs another mm or so through the shell before the NDS crank will lock in. I’ve torque within spec (40nm) but I’m not comfortable tightening any more than that.Even test fitted on the spindle though, it seems like one of the bearings isn’t seating properly. It’s difficult to get the spindle through without a mallet and the cranks barely turn more than 3/4 rotation once they’re in. I’m returning and just going to install a Shimano BB. I wish this would have worked out since my other experience was good.

Huge Disappointment, broke in half, terrible customer service
See picture, broke in half. In theory this seems like a good idea, however Wheel Manufacuring execution is very poor. Their customer service is no better. Go watch some Hambini videos, it is not uncommon for quality control on some Asian made frame to be less than ideal. On the bottom bracket this means you may have angler or offset misalignment; this can lead to bottom bracket creaking. This product when working does help eliminate the creaking. However, the aluminum on the treaded side is so thin it can’t stand up to the stresses caused by possible misalignment. If they were to increase the inner diameter on the threaded side, hence increasing the thickness of the aluminum it would probably be a great product, but as designed is just a waste of money. The Token Ninja is about half the price and has better reviews, I’m trying it next, hopping in works.
