What a great minimalist rack! Lightweight, clean lines, simple, sturdy.
I have been looking for the ideal rack for my aluminum frame Cannondale Synapse road bike with Shimano 105 groupset. Most racks are either too heavy, too bulky, or too fragile (some are all of those at the same time, even). I don’t care for racks with a flat sheet of metal on the top — it adds weight, adds aerodynamic drag (particularly those where the leading end bends upward), and really serves no purpose for people who have proper panniers. And somehow some racks manage to have that solid sheet of metal on top along with inferior tubing, making the rack both heavier than it needs to be, and weaker than it must be to be useful.The Tubus Fly Evo uses 10mm tubing that is sturdy and lightweight. And it doesn’t add anything unnecessary to its primary function of carrying panniers. It handles loads up to 20kg (44 pounds), and is a perfect companion to most of Ortlieb’s lineup of rear panniers. For example, I have a set of Ortlieb Bike Shopper panniers that mate perfectly to this rack.Installation is pretty simple. It takes a little measuring, testing, tweaking of the brake-bridge strut to fit it to many bikes, but that’s described adequately in the instructions, and really easy to do. Once installed it’s both lighter and sturdier than the racks I’ve previously used on this bike.My use-case is that I like to take the bike on my commutes at least one day a week. The rest of the time, I ride the bike for pleasure and exercise. I live in hilly terrain, and prefer not to add unsightly and unnecessary weight to my climbs. This rack handles my commute and errand needs, while allowing my bike to be a pleasure to ride the rest of the time.If you carry heavier loads look for one of the other Tubus racks (logo, cargo, vega, for example). But if you want a rack that adds about 9/10ths of a pound to the bike but can handle loads up to 44 pounds, this one is perfect.Keep in mind that it is NOT for use with top-mounted trunks. It doesn’t work with trunks because it’s open at the top, and also narrower than most trunks. It’s designed specifically for panniers, and manufactured by “Tubus” which I believe is a division of Ortlieb — a brand that is world-famous for its excellent panniers. So for commuting and errands, and lightweight day-tour trips, where it’s desirable to keep the rack weight low, this rack cannot be beat in this price range.For those who REALLY want a lightweight rack, the Tubus Airy is titanium, and even lighter (like about 1/2 to 2/3rds pound, with mounting hardware) but is also more than twice the price. For typical users who want to balance price and weight, this is great.Note: The product description on this item is not entirely accurate. The rack weighs 350 grams (not 341), has a load carrying capacity of 20kg, which is about 44 pounds. The mounting hardware weighs 67 grams, but the bulk of that weight is in the mounting rod. The mounting rod is longer than necessary for most road-bike applications, and can be cut shorter if you’re really concerned about keeping the weight to absolute minimum without splurging for the titanium rack.

Quality and excellent design
Well designed, well made, remarkably strong and lightweight. Mounted on a Surly LHT. It mounts easily using the lower holes on the chainstays. Not sure it would work on the upper holes, which you’d have to use if you have larger tires (I use 700 x 32s). I use Ortlieb panniers, which mount easily on this rack.

Pros-it fits my Bianchi MilanoAll the hardware I needed was includedIt looks greatIt feels solid and doesn’t rattle.Supposedly works well with panniers, but I haven’t bought any yet.Cons-You have to bend the aluminum bar to that hooks to the frame on the front of the rack. No problem if you have a vise.I guess that could also be a pro, looks custom once you get it on there.
