High quality, learning curve
Got this so I could use SPD shoes some of the time. Love the build quality and versatility, but it is annoying to have to find the right side. Most of the time it’s easy on the SPD side since the platform side is heavier and can spin down, but wearing street shoes it can be tricky to orient. I think in another month it may not be a problem anymore, as I do see my skill in finding the right side increasing.

Convenient for commuting and MTB
The platform side is large enough for running shoes or street shoes. I particularly like the small spikes on the platform side that all a lot of grip when you don’t use MTB shoes with cleatsThe cleat side is perfect. Also, when you miss the cleat (let’s say to start pedaling in a steep hill), the platform side can easily deal with the cleat and provide you with the right grip for a few wheels turns.Vice versa, if you miss the platform side (let’s say to start off quick on busy intersection), you can use the cleat side without problem at all until you have the time to adjust.

Great pedals all around!
These are really awesome pedals! I commute to work on my bike and wear steel toe work boots, but on recreational rides and on the trainer I like being clipped in. These are perfect if you hate changing pedals all the time. The flat side grips great! It comes with short spikes installed and long ones you can change them for. I haven’t tried the long ones, but the short ones grip my boots perfectly. They naturally hang vertical and it makes finding the right side really easy. I haven’t had any issues with that. They seem very sturdy as well. My wife and I have been using them a while now and no issues at all. Spin great and no noise. I looked at alot of different hybrid pedals and am very happy I went with these!

My best pedals
These replaced a similar pair of generic pedals as a bit of a treat and are so much better it’s not true.Much freer on the spindle but not enough to rotate when not being used. Engagement is very easy when using the cleated side, far fewer false starts with these than any of the other pedals I have. Similarly, disengagement. The flat side has great grip for when you don’t want to be clipped in.As a bonus they don’t cut you to ribbons if you catch your calf on them as my old ones did.

Amazing feel on both sides
This is my second set of these SPD pedals. I use both clips for distance and flats for toodling. The clips are snappy, sharp Shimano high quality so say no more there. The flat side has pins that are extremely grippy on flat shoes so feel really good. The kit comes with extra pins that are longer if you wish but I have found both sets to date are perfect with the standard pins.So why my second pair?Because last month my gravel bike was stolen from inside my apartment building! The criminals came all the way up to my floor and picked it out of the other bikes in the same area, then with the bike cover and lock in tact carried it away. Reported but never found.

Perfect solution!
I’m not convinced that cleats are for me so I own cleated bike shoes and flat pedal shoes. This Shimano hybrid pedal is perfect. I switched the short pins for the long pins immediately and what a difference. The cleats make sense for long rides. So, without changing the pedal, my city riding can be with flat pedal shoes! Win, win!

Perfect touring/commuting pedal
Finally an XT-level flat/SPD pedal. Other Shimano hybrid flat/SPD pedals aren’t at the same level of design, material or build quality.Fairly light, totally bombproof. The flat side is pinned and concave—much more grip and support than the iconic MKS Sylvan Touring pedal. The SPD side works as well as XTR SPD pedals.I have these on my expedition bike and expect them to last as long as the bike 🙂.

A great SPD pedal for bike touring or everyday rides
These are great pedals. I put these on my 2-wheel recumbent bike, which is designed as a touring bike, but which I use for everyday group rides. Previously, I was using standard road pedals, but the bottoms of my feet were hurting because of excessive flexing of the foot. I was looking for SPD pedals that had a larger platform, and these pedals definitely meet that need. They are really not very much heavier than traditional road pedals, and as an added bonus, they offer the flexibility of riding with flat shoes (unclipped) if I just need to run a short errand. Highly recommend.

Don’t debate it, if you’re considering, buy these and make the switch
If you’re in between weather you want to clip or not….or you know you want to, but are scared of the adjustment period of switching….these are the pedals to go for. The design is perfect, which I say due to the fact that gravity forces these pedals to stay vertical when not used. So if you need to switch from one to the other. Just take your foot off for a second or two and it’s ready to be swapped by leaning it forward to clip or back to just stand on them. Also helps new clip riders by letting you unclip well before you have to stop at a light or something and switch to regular “stamp” style pedal so you don’t have to worry about falling for unclipping too late. The clip retainer is solid and super comfortable to release from stock. And installation was a breeze, just make sure you have some grease to keep it from sticking hard or rusting from water. I’m considering ordering a second pair for my mountain bike instead of getting SPD-SL(3-Bolt) pedals for the road bike. These feel that good to me, why have two different styles when one solid pedal can let you be flexible on what shoes you wear for the needs of the ride you’re going on. You won’t regret the purchase.

Everything I Needed
I’ve used PD-A530 SPD pedals for thousands of miles to-date. I put them on my road bike for training rides and would swap them to my touring bike to commute to work and for long distance touring. While those pedals were “okay” for pedaling without cleats, I felt that the platform width left much to be desired. About two months ago, I replaced the A530’s on my commuting/touring rig with PD-T8000’s. I absolutely LOVE these things! I can ride them in regular shoes and my feet can really notice the increased platform width. I can also clip in and get busy when I’m zipping around town. They are a little heavier than the A530’s, but they make up for that with functionality.I also like that I don’t need a spanner to remove these. That means 1 less tool I need to carry with me.Because of the price, initially, I was reluctant to buy these. However, after recalling how a pair of cheaper composite pedals crapped out on me during a multi-day tour, I figured it would be best to go with a quality brand that would last. So far, I’ve put about 300 miles on these pedals and they feel solid. My only gripe is that I wish I had known about these sooner.
