This is a pretty good quality shifter cable that I used to pay nearly $2/foot for at a bike shop. It’s not suitable for brake cable, and I’m baffled by the words “hydraulic disc brake” in the description because it’s absolutely not for those, but it’s great derailleur cable housing. The end caps are nice, the seam ripper to open the liner after cutting is thoughtful – I always used a sharpened spoke, but hey, this is good too! It’s a good quantity that will last me several years of maintaining my family’s fleet of bikes. And did I mention the price? It’s an excellent value.

This is budget cable housing. Its main attraction is the very low price for a spool of 50 feet.My main dislike is how stiff this housing is. If you want to form the little loop that is usually necessary just before the cable enters the rear derailer, with this housing the loop needs to be pretty long, because the housing will not conform to a smaller radius turn.The housing comes with some end caps, and, for some reason, a seam ripper. I’m guessing that they seam ripper is here to poke a hole in the end after cutting a length of the housing.This is suitable for bikes where performance is not important. Kids’ bikes or commuter bikes. If you are a serious biker, you should get better quality housing, such as Jagwire branded.

Even if you have some housing for your brakes, you should get shift cable housing for the thinner (4mm) shifter cables.This is a good quality spool, with a length that is enough for many repairs.You will have to cut it to length anyway, so just get a big spool for a decent price.Installation is easy, the material of this housing pretty much standard. A coated metal coil with a liner on the inside. For flexibility, it is necessary that the metal is a twisted coil shape. But this makes it always a pain cutting. If you use cable cutters or pliers, part of it will bend in. And that’s why the seam ripper is included. To press the metal back out. You of course can use any other tool and give the seam ripper to someone who is into seam ripping. If you are really particular about it, you can also use an electric mini tool for cutting or for deburring.Overall, this is a nice amount of cable housing in a blah color that fits every bike. I have some neon green for a special bike setup, but use this on my own bike. It should last you anywhere from seven to ten repairs.

Needed some extra shift cable housing, and this works great. Just make sure you have the appropriate cutters, but if you do, then this cuts and installs super easily. Great having a bunch extra for various bike projects. Plenty of length, and no issues with binding once installed.

this is a pretty good bargin for well constructed cable housing. it fits both my 1980s mtb and more modern fatbike. the only downside is the cable ends are plastic which sometimes break. just use some metal ones instead and you are set.
