Highly Ventilated Snug-Fitting Cycling Helmet
POC Ventral Air MIPS (CPSC) Color: Hydrogen White Matte | Size: M (54-59 cm)This review is for the 2026 update of the POC Ventral Air MIPS helmet. I’ve been wearing this for road and gravel riding in hot and dry summer conditions in the desert Southwest. From what I can tell looking at pictures of older versions of this helmet, the only apparent changes are colors. It looks identical to earlier versions of this helmet that have been tested by third-party organizations, so I expect that this helmet will perform similarly in tests.It’s available in three sizes: small, medium, and large, with the small fitting 50 to 56 cm, medium 54 to 59 cm, and large 56 to 61 cm. I have a 58.5 cm head, so in theory I should be near the top of the sizing but not at the very top for the medium. I would say that is correct, although I do wish I had gotten the large because with the adjustments set all the way out, I still feel some pressure on the sides of my head. It’s good that I’m bald, because if I had hair, there’s no way I would be able to wear the size medium. All that is to say, I think it’s best to consider the size range on these about 1 cm reduced, so in reality the size medium is probably better suited for people 55 to 58 cm in head circumference. I would assume, although I have not been able to check, that the size small and large should also be similarly reduced in the range of comfortable fit.I really do like the huge vents in this helmet. They provide excellent airflow and reduce heat buildup. However, because the vents are so large, it’s easy to get a sunburn through them, so remember to wear sunscreen on your head or wear a do-rag under the helmet. As far as sweat management, this helmet seems to have none. POC must expect the airflow to provide enough evaporative cooling to prevent extra sweat from dripping down. In my case, I’m a heavy sweater, so using an additional sweatband or do-rag is mandatory in higher temperatures.I find it moderately comfortable but a little snug in the size medium. It uses a standard Fastex-style buckle. There are no unusual retention mechanisms. The sizing adjuster is a click dial. The side straps use a plastic bracket to provide space, which helps prevent the straps from putting additional pressure on my ears. I didn’t need to make any adjustments other than the rear dial and chin strap, so that was nice that I didn’t have to mess around with adjusting the fore-aft position of the brackets around my ears.It comes with a nice storage bag that prevents it from getting dirty or smudged up but does not have any crush protection.

I didn’t know a good helmet until now!
this helmet is absolutely amazing quality and you can tell right away that it is a premium product. everything about it feels well thought out, from the design to the comfort and the overall construction. it has a sleek, modern look while still feeling like it is built with safety as the main priority.the fit is really comfortable and it adjusts nicely without feeling bulky or awkward. i love that it has good ventilation because helmets can get hot quickly, especially during longer rides, and this one does a great job of allowing airflow. it feels lightweight on the head while still giving that extra confidence you want when riding.the MIPS safety system is also a feature i really appreciate because it adds another layer of protection. it is nice knowing that the helmet is designed with safety technology in mind while still maintaining a comfortable fit and stylish appearance. the white matte finish looks clean and high end too, and it goes with pretty much any bike gear.overall, this is a fantastic helmet. the quality, comfort, ventilation, and safety features all come together really well. it feels like a helmet that was designed for serious riders but is still comfortable enough for everyday use. definitely worth it if you are looking for something that feels premium and offers great protection.

Very cooling
The POC VentralAir MIPS (CPSC) helmet is a sleek, aerodynamic helmet that provides protection with comfort with a wide range of sizes with the adjustable knob.I got this helmet for myself for commuting to work. I ride two times weekly for about 16 miles round trip.The helmet fots both myself and my husband and is much more comfortable than my previous one. The quality of the build is overall excellent, however the clasp feels disappointing for the price point (casp instead of magnetic).The best feature by far was the cooling aerodynamics. The airflow was cooling and I never felt like i would overheat.Overall, the helmet works quite well.

Funky POC fit but lightweight and cool to wear with big vents
The Ventral Air is one of POCs older road models and as such, it uses the slightly eccentric head shape mold. None of the people in my family fit this mold. I’ve tried POC full face helmets in XL and there’s always a pinching around some part of my head and the half-shells are no different so they have historically used a very different mold from everyone else (think like 10+ years). I think they use a less oval shape than everyone else because I can fit into Medium in almost every helmet brand with a haircut and the rest of the time I’m Large. Even the other brands with slightly odder shapes like Sweet Protection or Scott fit if I size up. So if you’ve never worn a POC don’t be fooled by the price and just splurge because their fit is especially specific to your head shape and for some it works well, but I have a POC Amidal as well in the same size (Medium) and it appears to be a different mold.My 12 yo daughter generally rides Medium and sometimes Small and she declined to wear this helmet. This is a kid with 2 full face and 3 half-shell helmets so she has a preference. I know that some swear by POC and part of that is they tend to very light and well ventilated. For those reasons this helmet is pretty nice if it fits you. However, I have light and ventilated and I have light and aero helmets, with MIPS (or comparable) and without, have crashed plenty on my head (mostly full face but not always) and I own a lot of POC gear. My feeling is that people get the Ventral Air because it looks cool. Yup. I’ve seen people who look really cool wearing this helmet and POC is one of those brands that, like the R brand, probably makes you look like you know what you’re doing.I just picked up some closeout MTB helmets from the S brand and I have to admit they are not good, but they cost less than 10% of what this helmet costs so the value is there and they fit like they’re supposed to. If you go with POC be sure to check the fit because you’ll know immediately if it is off.

Light, Airy, and a Little Smaller Than Advertised
After an unusually hot month with the POC Ventral Air I can say that it delivers on its headline promise: it’s one airy helmet and the matte all-white finish has really grown on me.That said, it’s just barely OK on my 58cm head without much room to let my hair grow out. And there’s no way I’ll be able to add a liner come winter. Head shape is part of it but despite being advertised as fitting heads 54-59cm I suspect that if you’re anywhere above 57cm you might want to try both the medium and large on for size.We’re into the pretty high end here, price-wise, so a helmet has to be pretty great to get four or five stars. For me, and setting aside the size, one big and one small thing hold it back:First, there’s no Virginia Tech rating as I write this. Yes, POC has historically done well but when it comes to spending nearly $300 on a helmet I want to make sure that it’ll do a great job protecting my head. Without independent quantitative testing it’s impossible to know where it sits in the spectrum of modern cycling helmets. If and when it gets a 5-star safety rating I’d consider it a four-star helmet.The other is the strap “Y” dividers: they’re the most convoluted and difficult to adjust dividers I’ve seen in any helmet, anywhere. Maybe they had some slippage issues at some point and had to do something to pass roll-off testing but they’re impressively bad and difficult to adjust, which I suspect means that people will just leave them where they are from the factory. At this price there’s no excuse not to be able to nail your fit so you don’t have the straps pulling the helmet back to expose your forehead or flapping in the breeze.

Exceptional Performance and Comfort, But Missing Some Premium Touches
For context, I’m an avid cyclist and triathlete who has completed 7 full Ironman races and a handful of Ironman 70.3’s, so amassed countless hours on a bike. Over the years I’ve owned and worn helmets from many of the major cycling brands, so I have a pretty good feel for what separates an average helmet from a great one.From a performance standpoint, this helmet is excellent… TOP NOTCH!The fit is outstanding, the adjustment system works very well, and it’s one of the most comfortable helmets I’ve ever worn, hands down. Once adjusted properly, it almost disappears on your head. It’s so impressively lightweight that you can hardly tell that it’s on, which becomes increasingly important during longer rides when every ounce starts to matter.Ventilation is another area where this helmet shines. Airflow is excellent, helping keep you cool during hot rides and hard efforts. Combined with the low weight and comfortable fit, it makes for a helmet that’s easy to wear for hours at a time.The overall quality and functionality are exactly what I would expect from POC, which is one of the top premium companies. Everything works as intended, and from a safety and performance perspective, I have zero complaints. In fact, I fully intend to continue using this helmet regularly because it performs that well.The reason I’m stopping at 4 stars comes down to a few premium details that I think are missing at this price point.First, when I opened the box, my initial reaction was that it looked surprisingly inexpensive for a helmet in this price range. The exposed foam has molding imperfections, and an overall finish that lacks some of the visual polish I’ve seen on similarly priced premium helmets. At first glance, it simply doesn’t look like an expensive helmet at all.Second, and perhaps more importantly, POC chose to use a basic plastic buckle for the chin strap. It works perfectly fine, but most premium helmets today include magnetic buckles that can be opened and secured with one hand, even while wearing gloves. Once you’ve used a good magnetic closure system, it’s difficult to go back. For a helmet at this price point, I really expected that convenience feature to be included.The funny thing is that once you put the helmet on and start riding, most of those concerns disappear because the performance is so good. The fit, comfort, weight, and ventilation are all top-notch.Overall, this is one of the most comfortable, lightweight, and well-ventilated helmets I’ve ever worn. If it had a more refined finish and a premium magnetic buckle system, it would have easily earned 5 stars from me.
