BUY IT – Planet Bike Taillight Bracket
Sturdy, easy to attach, works exactly as advertised and holds the Planet Bike Taillight securely to the rear rack on 2 of our bikes. Works best when the bracket can be mounted to the extreme end of the rack or by re-tasking the rear reflector bracket/arm as a mounting point. On one bike, we have a welded steel one-piece rack/basket that has a projection over the mounting point (similar to Wald 520 Rear Baskets 13.5″ x 6.25″ x 11″ Silver.109227). This condition required that I remove the face of the light (as if to replace the batteries), mount the back portion of the light to the bracket, and then re-install the front portion of the light. This is a slight hassle, but once the light is mounted we just leave it in place unless we feel the need to remove it when locking the bike in public.

I have used two of these brackets on my rear bike rack for half a year with “Planet Blinky 3-LED” lights. These were purchased to solve the problem of being unable to mount my lights anywhere but on the relatively thin steel of my rack. Installation was a breeze and despite the close positioning of these two lights on the back of my rack, removing the lights to replace the batteries is quite easy.Having the bike lights firmly attached to the bike rack is a definite advantage to a smaller plastic mount to the frame of the bike, as I have had those bend or break with the smallest of nudges. So far, these brackets have endured 5000 miles of rain and snow without showing signs of giving up.An excellent choice for a secure bike rack light mount.

NOT compatible with all tail lights.
My one-star review does not reflect the quality of the product (which seems fine); just want to let people know that this bracket DOES NOT work with Cateye or similar lights. I have a Cateye tailight and another light from some unknown brand, and this bracket does not work with either of them (yes, it’s my own fault for not doing my due diligence before purchase). Cateye brackets have the “stopper” (a ridge that stops the light from falling through the bracket) built into the bracket, while Planet Bike lights have said “stopper” built into the light itself. If your light does not have this, it there is nothing on the bracket to stop the light from just sliding all the way through. I’m sure this bracket works fine for Planet Bike lights. I hope this is helpful to someone…

Unless you have a Planet Bike bike light, don’t get this.I bought this assuming most bike light mounts that have a clip on the back were standardized. Apparently that is not the case. I have a Cyclops bike light that is VERY bright and wanted to mount it to the back of my Topeak Tourist DX rear bike rack. This mount has the correct bolt hole spacing to make that work while still being able to access the MTX track system. The issue is that the Cyclops clip is too narrow by about 1/8″ to be able to properly clip into this Planet Bike clip. Only $10 so not a huge deal, but It’d be nice if things were a little more universal. Now I’ll need to buy a planet bike light in order to use this or rig up a system to get the light to mount. Not ideal.

Easy to use but needs a design fix
Piece is plastic but should be fine. Mounts well to the rear of my Trek 520 bike rack. I could also mount it to the back of a Topeak bike rack. Doesn’t allow for universal use with other lights that have slide in mounts. I purchased a rear bike light from the same company expecting a nice tight, secure fit. Not the case. Light seems like it would rattle/bounce out of the holder. Currently helping to secure it with some silicon loops used for past bike lights. If the slot for the light was a better fit or had a latching mechanism I would give 5 stars. It will work for now. I attached it to my rack using the provided screws, washers, and some wing nuts I had on hand.

Essential convenience if you own multiple bikes. The light sits low when rack-mounted, so it won’t interfere with rack bags. These can also be fitted to standard two-hole seatpost/handlebar reflector mounts (which are available on Amazon if your bike didn’t come with them).
