a happy perineum
This is a review for non-expert bike riders.I’m a male in my mid-30s who has had occasional prostate inflammations over the years (prostatitis). Not surprisingly, bike seats, with all the pressure they put on your perineum (aka your “taint”), have caused prostate soreness for me. Most recently, I bought a comfort bike (more like a mountain bike than a cruiser) that came with a stock Avenir seat. The seat was *very* well padded, with springs Avenir Men’s Comfy Soft Top Saddle (Black). Comfortable to sit on, but too wide and mushy for active biking — not to mention that it put pressure on my perineum.I did lots of research on bike seats for men, and the research that has been done suggested I either stop biking or get a noseless bike seat. I was sad to think that biking with a saddle that has a nose could lead to permanent prostate pain, not to mention nerve damage, and impotence… I don’t want to give up biking, and I’ll be honest about the noseless bike seat: not only does it clearly give you less control of the bike, you end of having to explain to everyone why you need such an unusual seat… I’m a little vain, I admit it, but I’m not stupid — I would use the noseless seat a last resort after exhausting the other alternatives. The Planet Bike ARS Standard 5020 is one of the alternatives I wanted to try first.Put simply, the seat is awesome! no pressure AT ALL on the perineum for me. The seat doesn’t have a ton of gel padding, so it’s a lot firmer than the over-the-top plush Avenir seat. I think that’s actually going to be better for longer bike rides. I plan on putting lots of mileage on it in the next few weeks, and I’ll post an update on how it holds up on long rides.The seat looks nice, and I’m really psyched about getting on my bike more to commute to work and to explore all the awesome bike paths around my city. So happy with it that it made me write my first Amazon product review ever. And I’ve bought LOTS of stuff on Amazon.Planet bike has other ARS seats for men. I wondered, how is this seat different from the (currently) cheaper “Planet Bike A.R.S. Anatomic Relief Bicycle Saddle” also listed on Amazon? Planet Bike Men’s A.R.S. Anatomic Relief Bicycle Saddle That one is model # 5000, which you can look at also on the Planet Bike website. That seat is slightly narrower (6.5″ vs. 7.0″ for model 5020), and not quite as long (10.5″ vs. 11″). The 7″ width on the 5020 model makes for decent placement of my sit bones on the saddle (I’m about 5’10” and weigh about 150), for my biking style. That is, I sit semi-upright with comfort/mountain bike handlebars. You can go narrower (6″ wide) with the ARS Competition: Planet Bike 5022 Men’s ARS Competition Anatomic Relief Saddle with Gel. Or you can go to 8″ width, with springs: Planet Bike 5019 Men’s ARS Spring Anatomic Relief Saddle with Gel and Elastomer Springs.To sum up, if your “taint” is feeling numb or sore after biking, DON’T IGNORE IT. First make sure your seat is positioned properly, which people at the local bike store can help with. But if that doesn’t solve the problem, look into these seats. Your mileage may vary, but these are definitely worth a shot.*************** 1 year update 6/9/2011 ********************Hi everyone, after a long delay, I have an update. The bike seat now has hundreds of miles on it, and I’m still quite happy with it. Over that period of time, I’ve also become more serious about cycling and I purchased a road bike with drop handlebars. I’ve been using the same seat on the newer bike and despite the change in riding position, I’m still liking it. Here is the main observation I’ve made since using the seat:- The gel pads are a bit raised, which means that the back part of the seat is a little higher than the nose. much like if you were to mount your seat with the nose tilted down, this can make you lean a touch forward and end up supporting more of your weight on the handlebars (if your hands hurt when you ride, this could be the reason). What I end up doing is tilting the nose up ever so slightly. When I do this everything seems in order. Just don’t tilt the nose up too far or you begin to put pressure on your taint again…So, I remain happy, and I hope you enjoy the seat should you choose to purchase it. I’m thinking of trying out the narrower ARS Competition 5022 model for my road bike (Planet Bike 5022 Men’s ARS Competition Anatomic Relief Saddle with Gel), and if I do, I’ll post a review on that one. Too wide…causes chaffing
I bought this seat because I was looking for a more comfortable seat that was less painful between my legs. There was less pain, but the nose and seat are too wide and the gel causes too much movement. Put all of these things together and you get chaffing between the legs when you ride long distances. I kept the seat for a month to see if I would get used to it, but finally had to switch back to my original seat. Since I can’t return the seat, because the return window has passed, I will probably keep it to put on a cruiser type of bike or sell it. I don’t think that this seat should be sold as a seat made for long distance riding

It’s not the lightest, But it is ASSet to your rear end.
First off I’m a big guy, 6′, 265 lbs, and those ultra thin saddle seats that comes on the road bikes are not comfortable for newbies and big guys like me. I recently started cycling to help me get back in to shape. I ride 3 times a week, 10 miles on ride 1, 15 miles on ride 2 and 20 miles + on ride 3. I replaced the factory installed saddle seat on my Trek 4.5 with a Fizik Aliante. The factory seat was not cutting it. The new Fizik, which I purchased hear on Amazon, was better than the factory seat, but still hurts my you know what. I know, with time i’ll get used to the pain and my bottom will get more comfortable. I didn’t want to wait till my body got used to the cardboard seat, so I decided to buy this seat saddle to see if I could possibly get any better results. I know this is not the lightest best $100-$200 cycling seat, but hey, at this point I’m not looking for that. I just want to be able to ride my bike in comfort.Well, I got this seat, installed it on my bike, and gave it a week. I am happy to report, it solved my issues. It has allowed me to ride for longer periods of time, without numbing my privates and pain in my you know what. For the price, you can’t go wrong. Buy it and give it a try.

Great padding, gel, affordable, weatherproof option
After biking for more than 3 months on the seat that came with my sirrus Specialized, I was looking for a comfortable but not too expensive alternative that would’t make my daily commute to work painful. I was tempted to choose the older Planet Bike ARS model which costs $25 dollars but I went with this newer model because it looked (and apparently is) a little bigger (more comfort) and it is weatherproof whereas the old ARS model is not. Besides I didn’t want to be super cheap with this since I use my bike on daily basis to ride almost 20 miles a day. It does feel really nice and although I haven’t used it in rain, the material looks pretty waterproof. It is nice and padded where you need it most, super easy to install and after a week I just love it. Absorbs shock, it is comfortable and I think it my case this is gonna last long. I didn’t feel like I got any slower compared to my previous, more sportier seat, and in fact I am now able to not think about my seat and the pain it causes and I just enjoy the ride. Totally recommend.

Vagiseat Has Ruined my Marriage
I bought this seat after wrongly purchasing the 5019 (which was huge and totally abused my man sack for a 20 mile ride (leaving me gender confused and bitter). Now THIS seat is very different. I went for an 81 mile the other day and I am now back to my 50+ year old testosterone ladened self……getting warm flashes from my Country Living magazine whilst I evacuate the latest red meat debris left by the frequent summer deck grill orgy. I strongly endorse this tool cuddler of a seat for any of you older dudes who would like to have an affair with anything other than another woman. Oh, my lovely wife said it looks like a vagina. And it does.UPDATE 1/5/16The Vagiseat has ruined my marriage of 22 years. After several thousand miles of furred nugget bliss, my relationship with the vagiseat has progressed beyond simple rider/seat and has moved to a deeper, more fulfilling level that I haven’t been able to find with my lovely wife. It started when I began to detach the vagiseat (who I call Nina) after each ride to accompany me on a much needed shower. Then, I would bring her to the dinner table, out to Red Lobster…..the movies. The occasional trip to the mall, or optometrists office for new glasses. Nina has brought sunlight into areas of this lonely biker’s life that I knew not were in the shadows. She has become my friend and constant companion in the twilite years of my life. The final blow to marital bliss came when my wife (who shall remain nameless) forbad me to bring the savior of my man globes to our church fall potluck. I was forced to leave my Nina behind and I was so upset I only had 4 runs at the dessert table (pumpkin whoopie pies….oh Betty!) .Needless to say…..I still love my vagiseat. My Nina. My dearest. Still 5 stars……and I hope our future is brighter than all of them put together. (My wife took my bike in the divorce but I got the friggin seat. HA!)

A bit wider on the nose than the one originally fitted so experienced a bit of chaffing at first. Got some Bum Butter and now can do 50 milers in perfect comfort. Brilliant piece of kit. Highly recommended for boney old butts like mine.

A quality bike seat for longer, casual riding
I’ve had this seat for a couple years now, and I like it. I bought a fairly expensive hybrid bike, meant for all types of riding – from around town to 20 plus mile leisurely bike rides, but the seat was horrible.I searched, and searched, and this was the one that I settled on. It was easy to install, and looked nice.After hundreds of miles, I can officially say that it is pretty good. It is way better than the one that came with my bike, that’s for sure. It is fairly comfortable, and has easily withstood the use it has gotten and looks new, so it is clearly durable (no cracking, fading, etc.). The only thing is, I still wish it was more comfortable on longer trips. I will say though, that for a seat on a hybrid bike, this might be the best you can get. I just wouldn’t know, as I have only used a handful of seats on hybrids. However, this is the best one I’ve used so far.Overall, this is a good option for moderate bike riding and was a good purchase.

Every tush is different, make sure you are familiar with your own measurements before ordering any bike saddle. This is my fourth saddle this season.For me, this saddle fits me perfectly and performs really well for my riding style (trekking, 60 degrees position).The item arrived on time, and I immediately installed it on my aluminum frame commuter bike. I did a quick 10km ride to figure out further adjustments and then I went for a 45+ km ride to break it in.I am thoughroughly impressed with this saddle, for me it is comfortable to the point where I often don’t even think about the fact that I am riding my bike, and this is the first time I find myself in such situation.If the measurements are adequate for you and you take the time to break it in, there is a great chance you won’t be disappointed.

durable, with moderate comfort
This saddle is long-lasting, even after many long trips in rain with my mountain bike hanging on the back of our van. I have this saddle now on 3 different mountain bikes. You need to make sure the top of the seat at its front and back are level during installation, or you will find yourself sliding to the front. It is just a bit too wide for mountain biking, but easy enough to get behind the seat if you need to. The split in the saddle is excellent, wide and deep, so prostate pain has never been an issue on this saddle. The butt pads are slightly mounded, with separation of 3 to 3.5 inches for your sit bones. The pads are not squishy soft, rather they are on the firm side, but reasonably comfortable. The best thing about this saddle is its durability. Mine are still good after many crashes and after many hot/cold days and rainstorms.

Not comfortable for me
I’m a big fan of planet bike products and I’m a big guy plus I ride bike you around so to me, having a comfortable saddle is imperative.I really wanted to love this seat but the material covering the seat kept grabbing my shorts and pulling on them and making me slide around in uncomfortable ways on the bike. I was constantly having to stop pull my shorts back up pull my shorts over to the side because it would move them in every direction making me feel awkward on the saddle.Saddle itself was a comfortable I had nice amount of padding I don’t know that it was water resistant though because it felt very porous to me.I’m not a fan of the seat personally although, there’s nothing wrong with it as far as the design goes and whatnot but, that weird material they have over the seat itself is very awkward and uncomfortable so I ended up just donating the seat and buying something different.

You need to make sure the top of the seat at its front and back are level during installation, or you will find yourself sliding to the front. It is just a bit too wide for mountain biking, but easy enough to get behind the seat if you need to. The split in the saddle is excellent, wide and deep, so prostate pain has never been an issue on this saddle. The butt pads are slightly mounded, with separation of 3 to 3.5 inches for your sit bones. The pads are not squishy soft, rather they are on the firm side, but reasonably comfortable. The best thing about this saddle is its durability. Mine are still good after many crashes and after many hot/cold days and rainstorms.

Not comfortable for me
I’m a big fan of planet bike products and I’m a big guy plus I ride bike you around so to me, having a comfortable saddle is imperative.I really wanted to love this seat but the material covering the seat kept grabbing my shorts and pulling on them and making me slide around in uncomfortable ways on the bike. I was constantly having to stop pull my shorts back up pull my shorts over to the side because it would move them in every direction making me feel awkward on the saddle.Saddle itself was a comfortable I had nice amount of padding I don’t know that it was water resistant though because it felt very porous to me.I’m not a fan of the seat personally although, there’s nothing wrong with it as far as the design goes and whatnot but, that weird material they have over the seat itself is very awkward and uncomfortable so I ended up just donating the seat and buying something different.
