Absolutely beautiful fit and finish
Absolutely beautiful fit and finish. The pedals spun like they were frictionless. I bought these originally for my gravel bike, but found they really didn’t have enough grip, and my feet kept slipping around on the pedals when the going got rough. So ….. I put them on my touring bike ….. they ARE touring pedals after all ….. and on that bike, with grippy shoes, they work perfectly. Plus …. they add a lot of class to the old Cannondale tourer. It’s nice to be able to wear shoes that you can ride in, and go to dinner in after the ride. Only taking one pair of shoes on a tour saves valuable space. And no, I don’t think they are any less efficient than the clipless pedals I had on there, just different. These will fit straps or toe cages if you desire.

Terrific bearing surfaces, great looks, outstanding functionality
These are stunning pedals to look at. Easy to install with a 6mm hex wrench. I always use the 6mm available opening on the pedal axil and tighten from the inside of the crank arm. These spin almost on their own are are very smooth. Not cheap but so much better than the MKS Sylan Touring pedals for about half as much. I had ordered the regular pedals first and right out the box foung the bearing surfaces were gritty feeling and spun only a few times before stopping. I put them right back in the box and sent them back. No excuse for such poor quality. Also the cheaper model did not appear to allow adjustments or greasing of bearing surfaces.Though these are about twice as much they are smooth, comfortable even with sandles and grip well. They are currently on an older Trek turing bike but I could see them on my Gary Fisher MTB bike or my Specialized Allez Comp.I was a SPD pedal rider for years but now prefer easy on/off the bide and explore on foot, get coffee etc. Now have good grip with most any shoes or sandal, dual sided with no need to flip pedal over. If these are too costly I recommend a look at the $20 pedals on Amazon for day to day use.

Practically frictionless
Used these pedals to replace the originals on my 1984 Centurion Elite GT bicycle. Awesome. It is so much easier to pedal now as these are practically frictionless. Before I put them on, I didn’t realize how much of my power was just going to spin those old pedals. I was worried that going to flats would be a problem, but I really don’t miss the toe clips (no straps)… except that upon starting out I sometimes find myself automatically trying to flip the pedals to get the non-existent clips in position, lol. Well, I had had to do that for decades, so it’s going to take some time for that habit to die! In any case, it’s a lot easier getting going again at stop lights without the clips.

These would be perfect pedals, quality is very high, but.. the inner dust seals are not in place, I used urethane glue to seal in place, not a great seal, little bit of lateral play in left pedal, sometimes a problem with sealed bearings. We will see how they perform next month on Southern Tier.

Beautiful but squeaky – update: replaced under warranty
Left pedal developed a crunchy squeak after a month or so. It came and went for a few months, then became constant. Undid the cap and added oil, which helped for a while, then the squeak came back. Hard to understand because even the squeaky pedal turns with almost zero friction. These are beautiful pedals, reasonably lightweight, but I wouldn’t buy them again. Update – contacted MKS, sent a video demonstrating the noise, and they’re sending out a new set of pedals. Great to see a company that stands behind its products!

A beautiful set of pedals – insomuch as you can call a set of pedals beautiful! Very well made, the hub spins wonderfully free, excellent grip under the shoe and smooth as silk. Much better than the Boardman pedals I had on my bike before (and which broke). Considering getting a set for my vintage bike now. Not the cheapest by Sylvan, but worth paying the extra.

Great product for vintage bike restorations. These pedals look fantastic. Highly polished and you can fit toe clips and reflectors (or pedal spinners) easily. They look like the real thing, and come with sealed cartridge bearings to reduce the maintenance required.

For some reason, it’s tough to find good quality touring platform pedals. Every pedal seems to be for shoes with clips or straps. I used clip shoes and pedals for decades but I’m getting older and I need instant release on my feet so I don’t get wrecked.These MKS pedals are surprisingly light, spin well in the hand, the machining is very nice and the finish is top rate. Installation is simple IF the old pedals cooperate and come out. Because pedals can be real buggers to remove over time, I put a dab of copper never seize compound on the pedal threads and pulled them tight with a Snap On 15mm end wrench.Copper never seize is powdered copper mixed with water proof grease. The copper coats the threads, won’t rust and acts as a parting compound for the threads. You can get Loctite copper never seize on Amazon for about $16 for 8 ounces on Amazon.Rode the new pedals for 30 miles today and they feel great – time will tell how long the sealed bearings hold up.I mentioned that I wanted to get away from toe clips – until I saw the MKS clips that fit these pedals. Search Amazon for “MKS Half Clip Mini steel toe clip, chrome” and you’ll see the product I’m talking about. It’s an instant release clip – no strap or shoe lock but allows you pull on the upstroke on the crankset but your foot is free side to side. I ordered them (about $20) and they arrive soon – will review after I ride them for a while.Overall, these MKS pedals work for me – I like the quality, appearance and performance so far. Hope that helps!
