I have a Surly Long Haul Trucker and had read in a few places that this would work on it. The first one that I received had no hardware so I exchanged it for another. While I did get the rack installed I found it to be much too heavy and ended up returning it and getting a lighter set up.It definitely seems solid if you’re not concerned about weight.

I’ve had the Minoura MT-4000SF front pannier rack for nearly 3 months. It’s mounted on my rigid fork 1990 Schwinn High Plains steel-framed MTB (i prefer steel-framed bicycles for load carrying).The rack came boxed and padded very well along with an incredible array of mounting hardware. As the rack was not designed to fit bicycles like mine, i made a bracket to attach it (very simple to do). This is an all-steel rack and very stout. It is somewhat heavier than my Topeak “Tourist Super DX (for disc brakes)” rear all-aluminum rack, but i will likely be replacing the rear rack with a steel one.I wish Minoura made a rear rack with the same functionality as this one! I’m looking long at the Tubus “Cosmos” – come on Minoura!!!!!I really like how the Minoura rack is “axle-bearing” – my way of saying the weight of what’s in the panniers primarily rests on the axle. This, in my experience with my bicycle, allows for the weight on the forks to not wiggle around as well as for potentially greater weight to be carried. Further, this mounting system does not take up one of the threaded eyelets on the fork so i can add a basket if i choose. Incidentally, my bike seems to handle better with the loaded panniers for some reason (the Surly Long Haul Trucker is similar in this regard).I use my bike primarily for commuting and general trail riding, though i will be doing some short tours this summer. Anyway, my commute is a short-to-medium length ride (just over 26 miles round trip), but i encounter some rather rough streets, roads and trails along the way. The rack is absolutely rock-solid. No wiggling or extraneous movement *at all*.In short, my Minoura pannier rack has been absolutely amazing!!! I carry my office clothes in two panniers attached to the Minoura rack with no worry about unexpected weight shift and have great confidence that if i needed to strap something on to the top shelf i would not be anywhere near overloading the racks carrying capacity.For the price, there is no better value in a bicycle rack. Further, the Minoura MT-4000SF compares very well with racks of nearly twice the cost (think Jannd “Extreme Front Rack”) and more (Surly “Nice Front Rack” and Rivendell/Nitto “Big Front Rack”).Incidentally, i do not work for Minoura – i’m simply a very satisfied customer!

easy to install
Came packaged in heavier plastic + cardboard. Mostly preassembled, easy to install. Fit on my front shocks perfectly. Very sturdy, Have no qualms loading 50 lbs on this. Will order another one for my other bike soon.

Missing part.
It took over a month to get the rack and when I started putting it on my bicycle there is a nut missing from a bolt. Game over. I’m going to have to try to find a replacement.

Durable and solid
I like this rack. It was a bit pricier than some of the cheap racks, but seems well worth the extra cost. It is made of steel so it isn’t exactly lightweight, but its also pretty strong and doesn’t move or flex too much. It carries the weight down low making the bike handle really nicely and weight over the front wheel makes steering feel responsive as well. It comes with an extended quick release skewer that fits through the front wheel.

Zip ties broke during shipping. Ended up with a few areas that were slightly scratched, but I think it will be easy to touch up. The rack is very well made. It can keep panniers low to the ground and has an extra spot on top where the rack pieces join that can be used to strap things to. The instructions say not to use this rack on a rigid fork, but I was able to attach to the cantilever mounts on my 1991 GT Timberline using the provided hardware. The only con is the weight, but steel is real! It shouldn’t leave me stranded and it can be repaired if needed.

Great Rack For Touring and Cargo
I purchased this front pannier rack for my Trek 4300 mountain bike. The rack shipped with all the necessary hardware but the instructions are printed in Japanese. A quick jaunt to the Minoura website and I downloaded the PDF manual, which was clearer than the supplied manual. The rack is well constructed and holds my front panniers without any problems. This rack mounts well with suspension forks; however, the supplied fork mounts did not work for my bike. This was no big deal because the L brackets mounted perfectly to the brake boss.I see other reviews complaining about the weight. I have no problem with the weight, as I said earlier, I find this rack to be of good quality. I appreciate the fact that Minoura supplies the extra long QR skewer with the rack. A definite plus! I am using this rack as a touring/cargo setup.I highly recommend this rack.

Great rack for your money.
Just what I was looking for.. I needed a rack that would mount to my old mountain bike forks and hold my panniers with a bag on top. This looked perfect. It allows for the panniers to mount low on the fork for a lower center of gravity and I was also able to center them over the axle. This means less noticeable weight when turning. It even comes with mounting hardware for suspension forks or V Brakes. AWESOME, but with a few flaws and that is why I give it a 4 star. I was thinking about 3 stars but decided it should be 4.1st off the jig used to make them was not perfect. When the pannier mounting bar is level the top is of the rack is tilted back. I would like for both of them to be level.2nd the rack is fairly wide and could use a little longer brake attachment bracket. I bent mine out to fit and it was maxed out. I had barley enough room to use the mounting screws.3d thing is the top does not allow me to secure a bag. It is to narrow for my bags to secure so they float around when mounted. I plan to make a wood platform and mount it to the top so I can secure them better.4th thing I didn’t like was the weight. It is heavy, I didn’t notice it was made out of steel when I ordered it and it is a lot heavier than my aluminum one I was replacing. My fault, wish they made them out of aluminum.My biggest complaint is the weight of the rack and that is why I give it a 4 star. I can live with the rest.Overall it is a very well designed rack and will haul a good amount of weight.
