Heavy, hard to lock, won’t scratch as it is well covered.
It looks and feels very sturdy and durable, it is heavy, I ride an ebike so I don’t mind, but you will feel it in your backpack, hard to lock, as the weight and the key spinning to lock position makes it a pain, but for this price there is nothing this secure, complete overkill here in Cape Cod, let’s see what happens when I move to south Florida.

Serious lock, serious weight
I chose one of the lighter Kryptonite chain locks for security, but 7 lbs is a lot for a small woman to bike around. Maybe in a back pack or bungeed on the rat trap. Various cases won’t work with my frame.

Strongest lock out there
We bought some nice bikes and the bike store recommended this lock. Just from looking at it you can see it’s indestructible. I’m sure a criminal can eventually saw through the links but it may take 10 minutes with a diamond saw. And it uses a weird key, which I’m assuming makes it hard to pick the lock. The Good – indestructible chain and locking mechanism. It’s even wrapped with a tough woven plastic sleeve so the chain won’t scratch your bike. The Bad – the chain is HEAVY. Supposedly it weighs 7 pounds but feels like 20 pounds. We use it when the bikes are being stored, but I can’t imagine hauling the chain around with me in a backpack for a ride to the supermarket. Minor quibble – the key/locking mechanism is slightly fussy to use. Not a deal breaker.

Obviously, I won’t really know how good it is until/unless, we have an attempt at theft of the bicycle(s) however, it appear to be well made. It’s very heavy so I can’t see us carrying the chain whilst out cycling but it is in use as a security measure when the bikes are stored. I was disappointed at having to spend some time with a set of fine needle files tidying up the keys on both this and the Kryptonite D-lock we purchased at the same time because the keys kept sticking in the locks often making it almost impossible to release. They are fine now that all burrs have been removed and the lock mechanisms lubricated with silicon/graphite lube. I had read of other users complaining about locks sticking and rusting so if this feedback assists others, it’s been worthwhile. Obviously, regular lubrication is vital to prevent rusting which is going to happen, if the locks are in use outside in during inclement weather…

Very heavy deterrent
Very heavy sturdy chain lock with smooth operation. This is definitely a lock that needs to be transported in an accessory bag on bike and it is way too heavy and big to wrap around frame in any sensible way. I am using a lighter weight chain lock for trips with quick and easy stops and using this Kryptonite one for rides where i need more security. It fits nicely in a cargo rack mounted panier bag. I also like this lock for use for securing my bike when transporting on my jeep bike rack. I can stop for lunch or whatever and not worry about someone lifting it off the jeep. Yes its heavy and cumbersome but if you need security, thats the tradeoff. Its basically a very good deterrent I think. I would recommend getting this lock, but also getting a lighter weight one so you can get by using this one for those instances when bike will be unattended for longer periods as carrying this one requires more planning and weight on the bike. If you always ride with a cargo bag, then this lock is a good choice too.

Nice quality
It is heavy but worthy. I simply do not want my e bike taken. I am employing a 3 lock method with this chain as the anchor. If they want it bad enough, I doubt this wiull stop them, but it is going to take work. Very pleased.

Das Kryptonite Kryptolok ist mit seinen rund 3 kg definitiv kein Leichtgewicht – aber genau das macht es so vertrauenerweckend. Es wirkt extrem stabil und hochwertig verarbeitet. Nachdem mein letztes Fahrrad wegen eines billigen Schlosses gestohlen wurde, fühle ich mich mit diesem Modell endlich wieder richtig sicher.Mit einer Länge von 120 cm ist es außerdem super flexibel. Ich kann mein Rad überall problemlos festbinden, ohne lange nach einer passenden Stelle suchen zu müssen. Der Schließmechanismus funktioniert einwandfrei und lässt sich leicht bedienen.Kurz gesagt: Wer kein Problem mit ein bisschen Extragewicht hat, bekommt hier ein richtig gutes und sicheres Schloss. Absolute Empfehlung!

Cut like butter. Looks like they cut it with a grinder. Lost an e-bike. In a restricted access parking garage. Would’ve lost two e-bikes if the other ebike wasn’t dismantled and not working. We had two of these kryptonite locks and they cut through both of them.
