Too small to be a traditional U lock, thin cable
This might work as a U lock on a road back with narrow tires, but the shackle is pretty short and there’s really not enough lock there to lock the frame and wheel to a bike rack. So it really behaves like a large conventional lock…which is pretty disappointing. Also, the included cable (which you’re going to have to use, since the lock is too small to use on its own) is thin. It doesn’t look thin at first; outer diameter is about 11mm. But when you lock closer, you’ll see that it has a very thick plastic covering, and the actual metal is only about 6mm. I also have a lock cable from a well-established brand and while the outer dimensions are essentially the same, the actual cable is significantly thicker. On top of all that, the lock cylinder is pretty basic. While most bike locks use a disc detainer cylinder, this is a standard pin tumbler, which is relatively easy to pick. Even for the relatively low price, I wouldn’t recommend this lock. Spend a little more and get something that will actually do some good.

Decent quality U-bolt lock, it is a bit small but has an included cable
Having several E-bikes, motorcycles and such, I’m always in the market for a way to keep them secure with a good quality lock. This lock is a U-bolt style which is designed to be able to use it by locking it around something, such as a wheel, two gates, to a pole, etc. It’s not really designed for locking such as a bike directly to a pole, it’s probably not large enough for that, but where a normal pad lock is small, this one has the larger shackle to fit around something a normal lock won’t.The lock comes with a double-sided key so it will fit the lock in either orientation. This makes it easier to open, rather than having to fumble with the key in a certain direction. In order to lock the shackle back to the lock unit, you have to have the key inserted and turned to the unlock position as you cannot insert the shackle without doing it this way. I’m not too fond of this one feature but I understand, it’s probably just how it is designed. There is an included steel cable which will most likely be needed on most occasions when using this lock. The cable seems relatively thick although some of that is due to the rubber coating covering the cable. The lock mechanism and shackle are both rubber-coated as well. This lock and cable set is fairly robust and strong. Now, bear in mind, probably any of the pieces can be defeated by someone who is determined to steal something. This lock, along with many others, is designed and meant to deter theft by making it harder than normal to defeat them. Recently, I tested a very thick, hardened steel chain that was advertised as made of extremely hard metal, while I couldn’t cut it with a hack saw or bolt cutters, I used a cordless die grinder which cut through it in about 7 seconds. That considered, this lock set is going to keep your stuff secure in normal circumstances because it’s going to take more effort than some thieves may want to undertake to defeat them. Even considering the cable possibly being a bit on the small side, I can tell you from experience and testing, a larger cable is only going to add a few seconds to anyone trying to cut through it. The key to ANY lock is deterrence, nothing will stop a determined thief with the right tools. Most thieves will look at this locking system and decide it’s not worth the hassle.Overall, I think this is a good lock, it’s good quality and fairly heavy-duty. The way it is designed with the larger shackle, makes it a lot more functional as it’s easier to use it with the cable and in certain scenarios, it will fit over and around things that regular locks won’t. Regarding value, it’s a good bargain as I’ve seen cables that cost almost what this whole lock set does, and I think you’ll get a higher level of peace of mind knowing you have your stuff secured with this lock.

Will keep honest people honest
However, this “heavy duty” lock and cable could be easily defeated by a determined thief. I got it not for bikes but to secure my RV’s surge protector to the utility pole. It’s works fine for that as it prevents random passers by from walking off with my very pricey surge protector. The included cable is not ‘anti bolt cutter” as a large cable cutter would defeat it in no time. But the U-lock seems pretty robust. The price of $24 is good for this quality of lock.

Great safety option
This is a compact black U-lock intended for everyday bike security. The alloy steel construction gives it a solid feel and it’s a clear step up from cable locks, which are very easy to cut. For city riding or quick stops, a U-lock like this is generally considered the basic level of protection. The instructions are easy to follow. The dimensions (about 6 × 2 × 10 inches) make it practical to use with a bike rack or post while still keeping the lock relatively compact. It should be large enough to secure the frame and possibly a wheel depending on the rack setup. The listing also mentions a frame mount, which is helpful so you can carry it on the bike instead of putting it in a bag.Like most locks in this category, it works best as your primary frame lock, and if you want extra protection you can pair it with a cable or chain to secure wheels or the saddle.Overall this looks like a reasonable commuter lock. It’s not meant to compete with the very heavy, premium security locks designed for long-term outdoor parking, but it offers a good balance of portability and protection for daily use.

Too small for securing a standard bike
First, don’t use any of the pictures included in the listing as guidance for how to properly use a U-lock to secure your bike. Look up the ‘Sheldon Brown Method’ and variants. The good: It is nice that the lock is covered with a rubber/vinyl coating so that resting on/against your bike, the lock itself isn’t going to scratch your frame.Otherwise, I cannot recommend this lock for truly securing a standard bike. It’s just too small. If you’re tires are small enough (< 40c), you can maybe use the Sheldon Brown method (locking the rear tire to a solid object, with the lock passing inside the rear frame triangle). That's assuming you can get the bike right up against whatever you're locking to, and the pedals, chainstay or saddle aren't going to get in the way. But even here, there isn't enough room to get any part of the frame inside the lock too.* I tested my daughter's bike (the silver one) with 38c tires and a PVC pipe as a stand-in for a public bike rack. This could work, but I wouldn't leave a bike I care about locked like this for more than a short trip inside a store, coffee shop, quick lunch, or somewhere that's monitored.* I next tried it on my CX bike (the red one) with 40c tires. The U was tight around the tire/wheel and it would be challenging getting the bike close enough to also wrap around a pole or rack. The chainstay gets in the way.* Next, I tried it on a 55c (2.25") tire (not on a bike). Once looped over the tire, there's no room to pivot the U. If the wheel was mounted, there's no room to secure against anything.* The included cable looks heavy-duty, which itself may be a theft deterrent. But looking closely, the thickness is mostly due to the PVC sheathing. In summary, I can't recommend this lock for securing a standard bike. I found it mostly unusable on any bike with tires over ~38c wide. On a bike with skinny tires, your options are limited to a less-than-secure setup. If you're concerned about bike theft, you're going to want to replace the cable.

Sturdy lock and cable
I’m looking for a lock/cable to help secure our bikes on the rack while we stop overnight at a hotel. Nothing is completely secure, but this set will help. The U lock is quite sturdy, and the cable is thick. Both would be hard to cut through and should deter a thief. I like the silicone cover over the parts. The set also comes with a bracket for attaching to the bike. I wish the cable were longer so I could wrap up both of our bikes in 1 set. Overall, it’s easy to use and should work as expected. I’m a little concerned that a thief could pick the small lock, so I’ll use more than 1 lock set on our bikes.

Low security
The AMZcycle u lock is a basic low end bike lock. Similar to how the “K” brand markets their cheaper products, this lock is best for low crime areas. It will stop the opportunistic thief, but not a determined or prepared one. The U is on the mini side of things, with internal dimensions about 6in tall and 2.5in wide. The lock tube has plastic end caps, and what I can see of the internals is a lot of plastic. The lock mechanism feels loose and has a basic operation. The key is needed to close the U, making it harder to use. The mount adapter has a pretty limited tube size it will clamp on (the faked marketing image showing it clamped on a dropper post is laughable). It is too big to clamp tightly on the 25.4mm seat tube of my son’s BMX and too small to use on its 30.5mm top tube. I suspect it is designed to fit a 27.2 seat tube, which I don’t have on any of my bikes. The cable is ok, the thick plastic sheathing makes it look bigger than it is. The cable itself looks to be closer to 7mm thick (with sheathing you get the 11+mm). Compared to my name brand cable, the outer size is similar, but the brand name uses a much thicker braided cable. I’d wouldn’t recommend the AMZ setup, unless you’re not really worried about your bike being stolen.

This U-Lock is Truly Comparable To The Brand Name!
My tween twins and I all have electric scooters. We love riding around our little (relatively safe) town… When I saw this Amzcycle Heavy-Duty U Lock for Bike & E-Bike–- I immediately ordered it. I’m so glad I did… IT IS AWESOME AND GIVES ME SO MUCH PEACE OF MIND!!!Here’s what I know about this Heavy Duty U-Lock:•Excellent build quality•Made of thick, premium materials and feels like it will hold up against almost anything•Is very comparable to the brand name version of a similar lock that I have•Works perfectly with scooters, bikes and e-Bikes•Features a nice, long steel cable•Includes two keys and a frame mount•Is quick and easy to use•Truly has the capability to thwart attempts at stealingOverall, this heavy duty U-Lock is an excellent dupe for the brand name one! All of the features are similar, the safety feels the same, and it gives me the identical peace of mind. At the time of ordering this U-Lock was a little less than $24– and because of everything listed above, I think it is a fantastic value for the money! ELECTRIC SCOOTER RIDING MOM APPROVED!!
