Better than I expected
Delivered quickly. Priced better (less than half) than comparable Garmin unit. I like the quarter turn mount and it feels solid. It paired with my Bryton S800 head unit seamlessly and it displays a little graph that is intuitive and helpful at a quick glance. The audible beeps are also helpful and easy to decipher. It has been very accurate with detecting vehicles in daylight, dusk and night rides. Never had it ‘miss’ a vehicle yet but have had a few ‘false positive’ detections that usually resolve quickly. Gives great confidence of approaching vehicles. It shows how many vehicles and their relative distance to me and each other. Closing speed and ‘all clear’ indicated by differing color of graph. Doesn’t seem to false detect cyclists as vehicles. It did take me a few rides to notice that vehicles that are moving at the same speed as me won’t necessarily be detected or continue to be tracked if they initially are detected, those may ‘clear’ with a green indication and beep. They do ‘re-acquire’ if they begin to close distance though, which all makes sense but took me getting used to.Riding with buddies that have the very similar Garmin Varia, the functionality seems nearly identical. They also get occasional false positives though not necessarily at the same moments. The light is bright and has several modes. Battery life seems to be as advertised which is very good and MUCH better than the Garmin my buddies use. It does shorten the battery life of my head unit slightly when in use, maybe 10% or so. My S800 has an almost 25-hour batt life with my particular paired devices (HR monitor, speed/cadence, power meter) so I barely notice to be fair. If I unpair the radar, I assume this would not happen but have not tried that as I’m looking for more than just a taillight obviously.11/21/2024 update: after a firmware update the unit started constantly disconnected and reconnected from my head unit as I was riding. After a couple of days a firmware update for my head unit became available and that update resolved the issue. Not sure how that may have affected use with Garmin or Wahoo though, but something to be aware of.

Comparable functionality to a VARIA but with few glitches
Riding with Garmin Varia or Bryton Gardia is game changer due to awareness of surroundings that it provides. One feels safer on the road as you are aware of traffic behind you. I used both with Garmin Edge 830.Similar to Varia1. Integration with Garmin – automatically connects2. Visual of traffic approaching is very comparable to Varia3. Needs space underneath the post; you are mostly likely to lose space for saddle bag.Advantages of Bryton Gardia1. Affordability: This is 60% of the cost of a Varia which is not small change2. Mounting: The band and holder is more robust. It is easier to strech around the post3. Aesthetics: I think the product looks quite attractive with rectangular design and light is bigger.Disadvantages of Bryton Garia1. Car waiting behind you: When a car is behind you and it is waiting behind you, the car disappears from the radar as if there is no car behind you. It seems radar is unable to see cars if the distance is being maintained between you and the car.2. False Alert: At times, car gets stuck in your visual in Garmin. This happens about a couple of times on a 90 min ride. Even as car has passed you and there is nothing behind you it will show that there is a car. You know it is a false alert as the car is almost bouncing on the Garmin screen – going forward and going backward3. I have used it only for 4-5 rides and already had to charge is once. I have not experienced the 17 hr battery life that is on the description.4. In a 90 min ride, you will see message of ‘Radar has been disconnected’ on the Garmin. It gets connected within 5-15 seconds…but during that time you are on your own.5. You need to download the phone app primarily to update software. You can use it while riding as well but with Garmin bike computer, you do not need to use it.I have to test for a few more rides and have enjoyed the awareness that this brings while riding.Update Feb 4th, 2024Bryton’s latest software update seems to have corrected the first two disadvantages. No more false alerts and if a car stalls you can still see it. Fantastic product.

A must have for cycling outdoors
I never ride without it. Most of my riding is on the road so this is a necessity. I used to use cheap lights on the back and they did ok. But this guy – the radar feature shows on my computer and gives me indicators how close someone is. The light is bright and highly visible from a long way out. I’ve seen others and look at them and they all seem ok but, bang for the buck, seamless integration with my Garmin, super easy mounting – I’ll stick with this guy.

Works very good in the right place
Mounted correctly this is great. It easily detects cars coming up behind me as I ride. It has several lighting modes that – I hope – increase visibility and make it easier for cars to notice me.If you keep the app open you get visual notifications, but I usually have it in the background. This way I still get audible alerts and I can monitor my riding app. The battery life is good for me. I usually ride a few miles of mixed street and light trail and it lasts long enough for several trips.When I first got this, I mounted it on my seatpost. This did not work well for me. It rarely detected cars and I started looking for other options. Before I committed to another choice, I moved this to the very back of my rack. I did have to drill a hole in my rack to mount this. None of the included hardware was good for my situation. With the new position, the whole setup works great.

Bike radar shuts off intermittently and radar is ineffective and is not consistant. I reached out for warranty and Bryton said they would follow through with new device but they never followed through after they requested my information. Do not buy this. Bryton is horrible to work with and does not value their customers.

This is not perfect, although I have only had a couple of misses with it. For me, it’s more about how you mount it and keeping it clear of obstructions, and letting it get on and do its job. Now I will be straight, I still trust my eyes and ears before any bit of kit, but this makes a great second opinion. I ride in traffic all the time; yeah, I’m the one out in the eye-watering neon outfit, but drivers see me, and they see the flashing light on this thing, and I live another day to write more stupid Amazon reviews.

Bryton Gardia Is On Par With The Competition
I lost my Garmin Varia Radar Taillight recently, along with my Garmin computer and a front light. Ouch! Replacing these items was expensive but I did save about $100 by purchasing the Bryton Gardia radar taillight. I had over one year’s experience with the Varia and I find that the Gardia light performs about the same. I had no problem pairing it with my new Garmin Explore 2 computer and it displays exactly like my Varia did. I have noticed that it doesn’t seem as accurate when detecting multiple vehicles, the Varia seemed better at this, but I don’t consider it very important. It indicates multiple vehicles most times but more importantly, I know there’s a vehicle behind me and it will still indicate a vehicle after the first has passed me. Other reviewers have mentioned cars not dropping from the radar after passing. I noticed this once or twice, but the Varia did this as well, maybe more often than the Gardia.I use the radar taillight in conjunction with a “Take-A-Look” rearview mirror, attached to my glasses, which, in my opinion, is the best way to use these devices. You are alerted to upcoming vehicles with the radar beep and use your mirror to see what’s coming and react (or not) accordingly.The Bryton quarter-turn mount is slightly different than the standard Garmin type mount that so many cycling accessories use. This is a little annoying. Bryton provides a seat post mount that works perfectly but I have an under-saddle bag and wanted to attach the Gardia to the rear of it and they don’t include anything that I could use to accomplish that. I found that the little divots that lock the device in place are a bit smaller than the standard Garmin. I was able to modify a Garmin mount using some small files to make the little triangular shaped bumps on the tabs, inside the mount, a bit smaller so they fit the divots on the Gardia. Now the détentes snap into place and the device is secure.After using the Garmin Varia and having replaced it with the Gardia, I feel they are about equal in performance and build. Probably the most important piece of advice is to make sure you load the Gardia app on your phone and update the firmware before using the Gardia. If you are using the Gardia with a bike computer, you should probably run the app occasionally to check for future firmware updates.

A Reliable Bike Radar
I have my Gardia R300L paired with Garmin Edge 1050. I have used it for a week and I it has worked well alerting me about traffic approaching from the rear. I like the different colors that corresponds with the vehicle speed . It makes me more aware of faster approaching vehicles and I can take action to move over more if needed. It is also useful on bike trails. I am alerted when a cyclist is overtaking me from the rear. I have had only one very brief false alarm while on a paved trail.

プライムデーでほぼ１万円で購入。動機は1 皆がつけていて自分も欲しくなってたこと、2 手に届く価格になってた事。3 バッグミラーのかわりになりそうだから昨日届いてロングライドに今日つけてみました。アプリもダウンロードしてサイコンにも同期。使い方はササッと見ただけ。でもアプリがわかりやすかった。使ってみた感想は後続車の接近する様子がよくわかります。二車線で追い越し車線に居ても感知してくれる。これは便利で安心出来ました。日中、夜間モードがあって日中モードだと100キロ走っても電池が65%残ってました。ライトも明るく視認性も良いです。使い始めなので今は欠点は見えて無いのかもしれませんが約半値近くで購入出来たので今は大満足です。あとはどのくらいの耐久性があるのか？

Ik heb getwijfeld of ik de Bryton R300L moest kopen. In de meeste reviews die ik online zag was er nogal wat aan te merken op met name de grote hoeveelheid false positives en het detecteren van meerdere voertuigen. De firmware is inmiddels bijgewerkt naar R1.7.16. Ik heb er inmiddels zo’n 300km mee gereden en tot mijn eigen verbazing heb ik niet een false positive gehad. Ook geen false negative trouwens. De multi-voertuig detectie werkt ook naar behoren, maar alleen als deze je onder een hoek naderen. Een voertuig dat verstopt zit achter een ander voertuig ziet hij niet, maar dat is niet meer dan logisch. En aangezien je doorgaans aan de kant van de weg rijdt worden meerdere voertuigen vaak goed gedetecteerd.Voertuigen die je van achteren naderen en vervolgens met dezelfde snelheid achter je blijven rijden verdwijnen wel van de radar, maar tegen die tijd heb je wel door dat er iets achter je rijdt.Ik heb getwijfeld tussen de Garmin Varia, de Bryton R300L en de Magene 508, maar heb gekozen voor de Bryton. Doorslaggevend was voor mij de bevestiging en de USB-C poort. De garmin en de Magene hangen losser, deze zit muurvast onder je zadel.Ik heb een niet al te groot frame en ook nog eens een (kleine) zadeltas, maar het apparaat is hier goed mee te gebruiken. Tip: Als je hem ondersteboven plaatst wordt het licht niet geblokkeerd door de zadeltas en de radar niet geblokkeerd door je achterwiel. De werking is daarmee ook prima.De bijbehorende app is fijn en gebruik ik aanvullend op de meldingen op de fietscomputer omdat de app ook geluidjes geeft die op je koptelefoon hoorbaar zijn.Ik gebruik hem in combinatie met een Sigma 11.1 Evo en dat werkt grandioos. Aan de linkerkant van het scherm is een gekleurde baan aangegeven met daarop de posities van achteropkomend verkeer. Verkeer dat snel nadert wordt in rood aangegeven, vergezeld van wat extra piepjes.Ik ben erg tevreden met mijn aankoop en denk dat dit een betere keus is geweest dan de Garmin Varia. De laatste firmwareupdate heeft blijkbaar erg veel goed gemaakt!
