If you’ve ever had spokes loosening up on you all the time, you have a spoke tension issue…I used a crappy bike shop to true my wheels and the moron who did the work just tightened up spokes without testing the darn tension on nearby or opposing spokes…I eventually got a refund. Then I decided to do the work myself. Without this tool the job would have been almost impossible. I probably could have asked my uncle to do it (old school cyclist – probably uses a tuning fork to test spoke tension), but since my entire family is now cycling and commuting by bike, I need these skills myself.Works like a dream. Very easy to use. Just look at the pics online and you pretty much know how to use it.Highly recommended.

The results given are inconsistent. The two halves of the tool rub together along one edge inconsistently, and there are other areas of friction in the tool which may contribute to inconsistent readings.

I didn’t find any friction like the latest reviewer noticed, and it appears very similar to the Park, at least it has screwed-in pins with hex bolts rather than the press-fit seen on many cheap models. Accuracy I have nothing to compare it to, but it did allow me to tension all my spokes nearly the same (minor differences needed to true the wheel), which I verified by the tap & tone test, which will tell you if a spoke is tighter or looser than a neighbor, but the meter gave me the added assurance that at least I was close to the range of proper tension – assuming the meter and conversion chart are at least close. Anyway, the wheel runs true (< 0.5 mm runout) and feels good. TBD if it lasts.

You get what you pay for
The China Lebycle tool is about 1/5th the price of the USA made “Park” tension gauge. My Lebycle arrived with the adjustment screw loose backed all the way out, so I had no idea if it was accurate. I obtained a newly calibrated Park tension gauge for comparison. Keep in mind both tools have their “specific” conversion charts due to the spring tensions are different on each tool. I checked some spokes with the Park tool as a benchmark then compared with the Lebycle tool using their respective charts. The converted kgf readings were way off. I proceed to adjust the Lebycle to get kgf readings within the range of the Park tool.But first I had to file a notch in the adjusting screw so the spring leg would seat and lock the screw. I think it is “close” to accurate kgf readings.One positive thing with the Lebycle is the pins are threaded and not pressed into the tool itself. The first two photos show the final adjustment and notched screw. The 3rd photo shows the backside difference of the blue Park tool compared with the orange Lebycle tool. If you plan on doing a lot of wheel spoke tuning I would spend the extra money for a Park tension gauge.

This appears to be a very well built tool. The body is made of anodized aluminum. I think black writing would provide more contrast over the orange finish. The Park tool that this is modeled after has the markings engraved/stamped into it. That would also be nice to see.Although very similar to the Park TM-1 tool the conversion tables are significantly different so a reading of 35 on a 2.3mm butted spoke will not provide the same kgf as any similar looking tension meter. To that end, it would be nice if Lebycle’s website were in English and if they provided a copy of the conversion table for download as a pdf. Additionally, providing the conversion table on a laminated card would be super helpful instead of just on a copy printed on an 8×10 piece of paper. Without the conversion table the best you can do is verify that your spoke tension is consistent with itself but you can’t do things like precise wheel building to tolerances.Provided you have butted or bladed spokes on the provided conversion table, and the tension meter is accurate, I’d say this is a decent tool. If you have Aluminum blade or round, Titanimum blade or round, spinergy or other specialty spokes this tension meter will give you measurements but the supplied conversion table won’t give you any conversions applicable to your spokes.
