    Needed modification

Any product made in Asia can be hit or miss. Mine needed modification at the pointer end. When performing a tension measurement the barrel portion of pointer would bind (rub) on body of tool at the outer edge of tool in the 20 to 40 range. Binding is not present when tool not making tension measurement. Tool should have been checked against a calibration standard at factory, if it passed it would have been sheer luck. If time is money to you I would probably recommend the Park Tool, if you like to work (tweak) on things then this tool is OK.

    Not Accurate At All

I tested it out on 3 bikes to see how accurate it was before making any adjustments. I have 1.6mm steel spokes and the gauge read over 30 on nearly every spoke. This isn’t even on the chart. It should have been around 17-18. 30 isn’t even possible and the wheel would not hold that sort of force nor would the spokes. This would put the spoke tension at over 350Kfg if you extrapolated the chart out

    Good price. Very fast shipping.

I got the tool in 4 days with the free shipping option. That was awesome! I had ordered the same type of tool from another source. The other tool took 9 weeks to get to me. It arrived on the same day as the tool from Amazon. This tool was obviously assembled with more care. All the screws and pins were straight and the pointer sat at zero when there was no tension on it. Not so with the other tool. This looks to be durable, it is easy to use and accurate. It comes with a small gage to measure the size of spokes. That might work for round spokes, but it was useless for bladed spokes. This is not as pretty as the “blue tool”, but at about 1/3 the price I’ll take it.

    Why So Tense???

    Works well!

    Inconsistent and frustrating to use

The bolt that holds the mechanism together comes loose every few spokes. This significantly impacts the readings, and makes the tool difficult and frustrating to use. I’ve tried locktight on the bolt and grease on all the washers, but didn’t help much. Probably should have just paid for a higher quality tool

    Works but not perfect

The tool works fine except after every 2 or 3 spokes you have to retighten the screw, it constantly works it’s way loose, after tightening the screw and rechecking the previous spoke the tension is usually different.

    Horrible piece of equipment

This spoke tension meter is WAY out of calibration.Compared to a Park Tool TM-1, when this meter reads 18, I’m getting 33 on the Park Tool.An inexperienced mechanic can get badly hurt or build an unsafe wheel using cheap crap like this.

    Very good

    Works very well

Effective alternative to the pricier models

As much as I tend to be an ardent name-brand US buyer when possible, I’ve been a little pressed for cash lately so gvae these a try. I built up a wheel using this spoke tension meter and brought it to a bike shop to be fine-tuned on their better equipment, and it was right in the ballpark already. You do need to understand what spoke material you have, and understand some basics of physics (hence the card that comes with it) but overall it was a good value, and the quality and easy of use seem to me to be on par with the original.
