Great product, terrible customer service
I got this rack for my bike, A Trek 8.3 DS mountain bike. The product is great, sturdy and well made. 4 stars. Unfortunately, the skewer that came with it was too short to fit my bike. (You need a longer skewer than your bike came with to allow for mounting the rack, and Axiom supplies one). I wrote Axiom customer service (you cannot call them) explaining the problem and the exact length of skewer I needed, asking them to simply send me a longer one. Four days later my answer came back: “take it to a bike shop and have it mounted.” Really? Like I can’t do this myself? I wrote to them again, three days ago, again asking for the proper skewer, but no response. So one star due to basically no customer service.

axiom front racks
works great on the road and dirt roads, havent taken it on trails though. i expect them to work just fine on a sea to sea tour on a mtn bike… install is easy and they are sturdy. you may have to buy an extended axle ,, my stock specialized rockhopper needed longer 1/4 inch to work… they are cheap or free at your friendly bike shop,

Great rack, but you may need a longer skewer (and they don’t work as well with Lone Peak panniers).
These are great racks for the price, and really good racks all around. I fit them easily on my rock shox spring coil fork for a recent trip on the Great Divide trail. They held up fine, and certainly didn’t slide around or get jostled off despite the banging.However, I have two issues with this rack.The first is that the skewer they give you was too short. You need a longer one to go through your wheel, fork, and the rack to mount this. I had to go to my lbs to get a longer one they had lying around as there was no way to use the one that came with this rack.The second is that there are little metal knobs on the top of the rack bar where you hang panniers from. These may work great with some other design of pannier, but my Lone Peak bags were spaced such that one of the two locks had to be placed on one of these knobs, preventing it from actually locking onto the bar. However, I still was able to get the panniers on and for the most part they rode fine, just popping off a couple times in some rougher sections. As I mentioned though, this was only an issue with the design compatibility of Lone Peak bags and this rack, so you may have no problem here.

Let me tell you the story of installing these racks onto my rather run of the mill Giant Revel Trail bike.Act 1 The arrival.With the glee of any new toy brought in by online shopping, I unwrapped the bag and found a sparse package of mounting hardware and the pannier racks. No instructions. A quick trip to the website and a bit of searching around recovered them, the installation reads rather simple, and to anyone’s credit, it is. Remove your old skewer, thread the rack onto one side of the bike push the skewer through your axel and over your fork, place the other rack on the other side, thread the nut onto the skewer. Mount the top of the rack to your fork with the supplied hardware taking care not to damage the tube and over tighten, level and square the racks using the travel of the mid beam attachment point.I did so and found the complaint that many people have echoed, the supplied quick release skewer is too short. No amount of trying would get me past the first step of installation. Heed this warning, measure your the fork length of your bike, if it is larger than 6 inches, the supplied skewer will. Not. Work. The supplied skewer is 160mm and the additional width of the racks will add about an inch. My stock skewer was approximately 130mm.Act 2: the quest for a few more millimeters. Since my local bike shop was closed due to coronavirus, I had no choice but to attempt to find quick release skewers adequate to finish the job online. I went and bought a ridiculously oversized 200 millimeter QR skewer intended for mounting bike trailers to rear wheels or to mount comically oversized fat tire bike wheels. This worked with room to spare. I will cut off the excess with a dremel the supplied hardware was adequate to get the thing mounted and leveled to my bike, it required only an adjustable wrench to get the nuts tightened and the locking caps on. With the right sized or oversized skewer, these racks are simple enough to install, though you may need spacing hardware or a larger set of U clamps to get it over your fork.I then turned to mounting the bags.Act 3: A tale of two bags.Bikepacking is about triumphing over adversity. Simply put, the mounting options to actually get the containers on the rack are kinda meh. It seems that a certain set of bags were in mind when the racks were made.They are listed on the packaging, I don’t know what they are, I didn’t get those bags. With some struggle and a bit of zip tie king fu, the bags were mounted onto the rack in what I can only hope is a permanent configuration. Time will tell. This isn’t strictly the racks fault.Once these obstacles are overcome, the rack is well built and of a sturdy construction. The welds are a bit lumpy but appear adequate. The paint appears to be well affixed. There is nothing wrong with the actual construction of the frame that I can see, it’s just you may struggle getting the dang thing on your bike as a result of the short skewer, and non intuitive instructions.

Perfect fit and on the down low…
These front racks are built right, finally. I have used almost every rack set up in 40 years of touring and these lower set front racks are a breath of design fresh air. Truly bolt up to almost any bike, precisely made and while tough, they are lite. I mounted mine to my Kona Rove ST in fifteen minutes. I use them for my tent on the right, sleeping bag on the left. Good to get the weight low. Price is right, well crafted, five stars.Also fit a set to my Surly gravel bike (Cross Check), flawless.

Easy to install
The long spindle that came supplied is required but is only just long enough. I followed other’s advice and refitted the wheel before tightening the top holding brackets – otherwise it would be difficult to get the spindle to bite. Disappointing to note that you cannot remove/install the wheel unless you completely remove the spindle; why didn’t they notch the bottom bracket? Other than that it is a very sturdy rack, ideal for fitting front panniers when you have front suspension and disc brakes.

私のロードバイクにはフォークにダボ穴が無く、パニアが付けれなかったがこちらの商品を使う事によってフロントにも荷物が詰めるようになった。フォークの素材によってはこの手の商品は不向きがあるだろうが、金属ならまず大丈夫。作りはそれなりに綺麗で、チューブス等と遜色ない。下部に輪っかがあるのでパニアの上にさらに荷物を括ると言った荒業も可能。クイックリリースに取り付けるタイプなのでリリースレバーは長い物への取替が必須。一応セットで着いてくるが、そちらは私の場合長さが微妙に足りなかった。

First, I don’t think it’s fair to give this product a low rating because of mechanical ignorance / lack of common sense. It comes with a bike axel and u bolts its not that complex. Either way they seem to be good quality. They may not be big brand but I don’t see how they’re very different or how these would be any less durable. Only thing is I barley had enough thread on the axle so I’ll have to get a longer one but I also have thick forks so. Simple instal and they’re just as solid as my $200 rear tubus rack so I’m happy. I guess time will tell.Update: these are awsome. I did end up getting the big brand tubus front rack and I prefur these more, they’re much nicer looking. You can’t even see the rack when the bags are on and they are solid as. Definitely buy these 👍

Axle skewer too short, non-standard pannier mount spacings
As others have said, this is one of the few options out there when it comes to MTB front pannier mounts, and it’s just kinda disappointing at every turn.1. It should come as no surprise that the axle quick release skewer is not “XL” and is too short for even the most vanilla front fork configuration. Mine is 122mm wide (outer), and the provided skewer doesn’t catch a single thread on the nut with the racks attempting to be mounted. I required at 165mm or 170mm skewer. (Typical rear MTB skewer)2. The top retainer tabs don’t seem to be spaced to any standard, as all the quick release panniers I own do not fit (Iberia, RhinoWalk, etc). The tabs protrude at a spacing that interferes with the pannier bag’s clips. (No, I will not zip tie my quick release bag). I, instead, ground down the stock retainers, touched up the wound with a little paint, and added hose clamps (6-12mm) to retain the bags. Now, it fits almost any bag clip layout.3. The vertical spacing between the top bar and the bottom support also seems to be non-standard. Again, all the tested quick release panniers I own do not fit. Unclear how to resolve this without modification to the structure.Of course, with a little re-engineering, almost anything can be made to work, but it seems like we should be able to expect that a little bit more attention was paid to the compatibility of the racks with the bikes they’re intended for as well as the range of panniers on the market.

Good and Reliable Kit
No clamp to fit the flat forks on my cyclocross, nothing for an eyelet either. [I was able to make it fit by elongating the clamps by putting them in a vice and beating them with a mallet.]The quick release is a bit too short for my bike. I used a different one.Orlieb front rollers fit okay once you have the rack adjusted properly. These survived a 2 month tour from Land’s End to Shetland.UPDATE: I’ve used these on 3 heavily loaded cycle tours now: ~8K miles. It is a good product and fit for purpose if you’re able to adapt it to your bike.
