The Astro Tool 78834 "Last Chance" Impact Rated Hub Removal Bolt Kit is designed for press-in, bolt-in or otherwise corroded hubs that should have come out with other attempts and other tools but just refuses to! Simply use the impact rated ¾” (19mm) socket size M12 and M14 thread bolts and 15/16” (24mm) nuts in this kit to push against the knuckle assembly and force the hub out. Use the free hole locations existing in the hub or hammer out 1-2 wheel studs to install these press bolts. These custom press bolts in this tool feature a ball bearing end and work with the included press feet to freely angle against uneven knuckles and dust shields. Kit includes 2 M14 press bolts and nuts, 2 M12 press bolts and nuts, and two press feet.

    Great product for hub or bearing removal

    Used these bolts to replace [the infamous Subaru] wheel hubs on 08 Impreza, and I can’t be more thankful to have these handy. The hubs were completely rusted and bonded to the assembly. After failing with hours of using hammer and slide hammer, I gave these a try, and within a few minutes, the hub was out. After replacing all 4 hubs, some of the threads on the bolts are partially stripped, but that seems normal. They can still be used to do more if needed. You, the people at Astro Tools, you are awesome!

    Got the drum back plate separated from hub bearing assembly

    This was very useful to separate the drum back plate from the hub-bearing assembly on a Toyota Yaris 2012. The hub-bearing assembly got removed from the axle in only 3 pulls with a 10 pounds slide hammer. (I don’t fool around anymore with the 5 pounds ones, too much rust here…) The only problem with the 10 pounds slide hammer is that the brake backing plate as a serious tendency to come apart with the hub itself. You now need to separate each others carefully, the backing plate is usually thin cheaper metal that can get deformed easily. This is where this tool comes handy. Just remove 2 wheel studs and insert this tool where the studs were. Make sure the tools pushes at the bottom on something hard enough to withstand this force. Only a couple of threads on each sides were necessary to separate the 2 parts easily. I will keep this tool as a joker IF ever the 10 pounds slide hammer gets defeated; it didnt happened yet, even up here in the Quebec rust belt. The tool itself felt well made and re-usable many times. Its quite expensive for a couple of bolts and nuts…

    Best solution for a DIY mechanic

    his product is amazing. I replaced my passenger side wheel bearing hub assembly a few weeks ago and fought that thing for hours to get it out to a point where I decided I am not going to do the driver side myself. I saw this product on a YouTube video and although it looked to good to be true for what it is, I decided to order a set. It worked brilliantly. Took me less than 10 minutes to pull the hub assembly after removing all the fasteners and it was in there good. If I have to deduct points, then I will deduct a quarter of a point since it looks like after I got it out, the threads on the tool was damaged because I had to put a lot of force on it before the hub assembly broke loose, but it was still worth every penny. I highly recommend this product if you don’t do wheel bearing hub assemblies every day.

    It’s a good design, but it does not hold up under pressure.

    I think this tool is a good design. It does not do very well with the bearings that we do on the cars that I work on. Ford vehicles have rear wheel bearings that are very difficult to come out. I had to make something else work. Wish they were a little bit bigger and stronger.

    A good set for your arsenal

    This set isn’t that bad. I do count it as a deposable/sacrifice tool since you will burn out the tread or ends of it. I have the full metal plate tool to remove wheel bearings. Sometimes, that tool won’t work to fit on smaller/odd/poor pushing spots hubs. This is where this tool comes in handy. The first time I used it the treads/nut got damage. Not a care as long as the wheel bearing comes off. Can one still use it after that? That depends. For me, yes. Keep those damage ones together til they don’t work any longer. You have 4 in the set. Use one at a times instead of 2 or more to remove one wheel bearing. It will last longer. Well worth it for your arsenal. You won’t be disappointed to have it.

    Good value tool for DYI

    In principle, the tool does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I removed two stuck wheel hubs with it and that simply wasn’t possible with a dead‑blow hammer or even a slide hammer. Anything short of this would have required a Pneumatic slide hammer and a good air supply. So in terms of actually removing hubs, this is definitely the right tool.The reason for 4 stars is the wear on the bolts. After doing just two hubs (and these were typical stuck hubs, nothing extreme) the bolts showed quite severe galling. The nuts and caps look fine, the coating wore off a bit but they’re still functional. The bolts, however, needed the nut run back and forth with an impact several times before I could thread them by hand again.So yes, the tool works, and I would even say it’s a good value. But I don’t believe it’s advertised as essentially a consumable. Based on the wear I have seen, I would estimate it might last around 20 hubs. And honestly, even then, it’s still excellent value: if $40 helps you remove 20 hubs, that’s about $2 of consumable cost per hub to save maybe 30 minutes each time. Well worth it. But if that’s the case, it should really be presented more like a consumable than a long‑term tool. Works perfectly for DIY if you are doing 2 hubs a year, but it wouldn’t work in the shop for long.If you look at from the same perspective as a can of brake cleaner or WD‑40, it’s a good‑value consumable. Just don’t expect the bolts to last forever.

    Absolute must have for a DIY or driveway mechanic. Three quick zips with the impact and the hub popped out. No hammer or slide hammer needed. Bolts are nice and sturdy and made the job painless.

    I had my doubts however, this tool took a very stuck hub out in no time! I didn’t have to hammer on it or anything. I live in Idaho, so take that into consideration!

    Last chance tool got it done!

    It worked perfectly. But the threads were up against something and it ruined them. So it was a one time use item.

    Worked flawlessly for me

    Did a front wheel bearing on my Toyota rav4 2015. I live in canada, so winter, salt and rust. I remove a lug nut and used the 14mm bolt to push on the hub. I applied a lot of grease in the cap protecting the hub and on the threads too. When I started to put pressure, I saw the hub face detaching from from the bearing part. I decided to use a 1 inch cold chisel with a small sledge hammer to force the rotation of the bearing.I founded another place on the knuckle to put pressure on. I hammered 10 to 15 times using the chisel on the bearing ears (rounded part where the bolt pass throw the knuckle.The bearing started to rotate like 1 or 2 mm. I keep the pressure using the forcing screw and I saw the bearing separated from the knuckle.I move the forcing screw from place to place and the hub bearing finally gave away.No damage to the forcing screw threads, really good tool that work 100% for me.

    Must have for stuck hubs!

    I didn’t know what do to with stuck wheel hubs, I tried hammering and a slide hammer with plenty of pb blaster. I got online and found a video of a guy using these. It came with 4 bolts. In 3 minutes I had the wheel hub off. They are a one time use though. I used 2 on each side but thankfully ingot the hubs off. Bolts are not usable but for 22 bucks it was worth it!

    It’s an honest tool

    It was cumbersome to use, but it 100% worked. One of the videos has a mechanic using grease on the threads – definitely do this, it helps. I used anti-sieze just because that’s what I had at the time, but it helped tremendously with friction resistance.
