    Only lasted one trip

I had high hopes for this product based on reviews for it and similar cargo carriers. I purchased it specifically for a trip from Wichita, Kansas to Copper Mountain, Colorado and back, a journey of only 600 miles each way. There were no directions for attaching the supplied straps to the carrier or to my vehicle’s roof rack. In the interest of getting on the road as quickly as possible, I opted to tie down the (not quite full) carrier with my own ratcheting straps instead.By the time we got to Copper, one of the tiedown points for the supplied straps was missing. I suspect it was due to that part of the carrier flapping in the wind. Would it have held if it had been used to secure a strap to the roof rack? Or would it have come off anyway, leaving the carrier attached to my roof by only the three remaining straps? It’s impossible for me to say.The situation was even worse on the way back. We re-secured and checked the condition of the carrier at every stop. We even made several extra stops just for that purpose near the end of the trip as I began to fear a catastrophic tear that would leave my baggage strewn over the Interstate.I’m happy to say that we made it back, cargo intact, but the carrier had to be thrown out. It may be that with the carrier full and the material stretched tautly, it would have held up better. But only partially filled, it didn’t stand a chance. I can’t recommend this product and will be investing in a hard shell model for my next vacation.

Awesome cargo carrier, durable, holds a ton, kept everything dry!

Easily 5 stars! I drove from Lorain, Ohio to Weeki Wachee, Florida for the Holidays. The first day we drove 9 hours, all in the high winds of winter storm Drago. It rained steadily for over 6 hours! When I stopped at the hotel in Knoxville, took everything out, not a drop of water had gotten in the carrier. Day two was dry, but lots of high winds, on top of driving a steady 75mph down US75. 16-17 hours drive time down to Florida. Held up perfectly. On the trip back, we saw some wet weather, more wind, and again 16-17 hours of driving at 75mph. Everything was dry as a bone. This carrier holds a ton of stuff. Used the 4 provided straps, and duct tape the extra so they didn’t flap in the wind. TIP: put the empty carrier on the car, and first attach the 4 straps to the car only. Then fill the carrier with you stuff, and then attach the straps to the carrier. Pull tight and you’re done. Make sure the zipper is facing the back, not the front of your car. I was nervous about having something on the roof, so I used two heavy bungee cords, too, but you don’t need them as the carrier did not move even an inch during the whole trip. Actually attaching the carrier to the car takes 5 minutes, excluding pack time. So easy.I really couldn’t be happier with my purchase, especially considering it was one of the cheaper options on Amazon. Gas mileage did suffer about 6 mpg, but that was expected. Did not make much noise, either.

    Great item with two exceptions

Let me first say that I did a ton of research on rooftop cargo bags and ended up choosing this one. The primary purpose of this bag for me is to secure it to a bed rack I made for my pick up truck. It would stow my gear for when I go 4-wheeling and camping.Requirements I need: It needs to be 38×38″ and sit below my cab’s roof line to eliminate drag. Check. It needs to be absolutely 100% weatherproof and waterproof as it would contain my tent, clothing, sleeping bags, etc… vital gear that needs to remain dry. Check. Here’s the bummer… the zipper is so cheap. Everything else on this product is of pretty good quality considering the price point, but as soon as I took it out of the bag and gave it a once-over I knew the zippers were the absolute cheapest you could possibly use. Sure enough, the second time I zipped the bag up with gear, the zipper broke (the teeth separated behind the zipper pull when they were supposed to be fastened shut). Good thing there are two zipper pulls which allowed me to zip it shut with the exception of the last 1/2″ or so.Another slight bummer is the fact that the zipper only spans two sides of the square. Basically you can only unzip one corner which makes it unnecessarily awkward to (un)load gear in and out of the bag. I understand trying to minimize the amount of zipper so it’s easier to keep weather/waterproof, but it really is a slight nuisance when loading/unloading.But it’s not all bad… I read reviews on many products specifically looking to see how water/weatherproof the bags are, and I know you have to take everything with a grain of salt because I don’t know if reviewers are exaggerating or not. But here, I promise you this is not hyperbole:I just spent two days and one night 4-wheeling and camping. Yesterday it rained on and off for about 2 hours. Just normal rain. Everything was total fine and dry on the inside. Today, driving out on the trail (slow rock crawling for 4 hours) it rained pretty hard off and on. Then I got off the trail and headed down the mountains and when I got into town it was a full on torrential downpour. Horizontal sheeting rain… couldn’t see 10 feet in front of me kind of rain. I was anxious to get home and into the garage to see how all the gear held up. At this point if it was soaked it wouldn’t matter other than drying it out. Not a single drop of water was in the cargo bag whatsoever. Everything was bone dry.So I have a dilemma now. Do I send this back and get a new one knowing the zippers are absolutely worthless and will more than likely break again in the very near future. Or do I bring this to a guy in town who is known for repairing and upgrading mountain gear? Because I really like this bag and if I can remedy the zipper situation this is easily a 4.5 star item.Pros:100% completely weather/waterproof. The flap that covers the zipper is more than enough to keep the weather out.Simple, no frills and no unnecessary/excessive design components that usually backfire.Price point.Cons:Incredibly cheap and pretty much worthless zipperOnly two sides of the square unzip making it a bit awkward to load and unload gear.

    Better than expected

Just took this carrier out for the first time while camping. Drove about 700 miles and on our way home we bucked a 15-20mph wind and it rained off and on. The carrier held up with no water in it whatsoever. Stored our tent, propane camp stove(roughly 20″ X 8″ X 4″ when folded flat), a small tote, two person sleeping bag, regular sleeping bag, a garbage filled with dirty laundry, a comforter, and a pillow.I did purchase two cheap ratchet straps from Walmart for $7 as insurance that it didn’t move and also bought shelf liner($1) to put underneath it to deter it from moving as well and sure enough it did not move. Also, we bought a lock for about $4 just as a peace of mind for the zippers when we stop somewhere. As some have said, the only drawback is really that it can only be zipped from one side of the vehicle, but this is a minor annoyance. Carrier exceeded expectations.

    Durable Bag an Great Size

I purchased this to transport camping supplies and free up space in my Equinox. I didn’t measure very well and it was larger than my allotted space but that was my fault. I was impressed with the quality of the material. It is very durable. I was amazed at the amount of stuff that I could fit in there. I stuffed 4 bag chairs, 3 air mattresses, 2 small suitcases plus other things. I followed the recommendations of keeping the zipper to the back of the vehicle. I need to work on tying the straps down so they aren’t flapping in the wind and beating on the SUV. I am very impressed with this bag.

    Good but flawed

Worked great through a 750 mile road trip. The durable material had no problem withstanding long durations of highway speeds. While the bag is waterproof, the zipper is not. We got caught in the rain & the zipper leaked while the waterproof bag trapped the rain inside & created a puddle. I will still use this again in the future, but I’ll slap some duct tape over the zipper after I get everything loaded & closed.

This bag was really wonderful for our trip!

    Great bag, great price.

This bag worked perfectly on our recent 1,000 mile roadtrip. It fit perfectly between on the factory roof rack on our 2008 4Runner, avoiding the sunroof with no problem. We encountered some rain but had zero leakage (as you can see, zipper was rear-facing). We used our own tie downs to be safe and had no trouble whatsoever with movement across three days and 1,000 miles. Bag shows no wear and tear after our trip. Very pleased!
