What you see is NOT what you get
Item shipped does not match the item pictured. Amazon photo shows an INDEXED three speed shifter — three clicks and the numbers 1 thru 3 indicating the speed. Notice the “3” in the Amazon photo. What you get is not indexed. It’s similar looking, but clicks continuously across the whole range. And no numbers indicating the speed. See photo of what I received. These shifters were common before indexing. Like friction shifters, the rider has to futz with shifter to find the sweet spot. Not great for a kid. I assumed the first shifter I received was sent in error, but when I exchanged I got the same thing again. Now I’ve got to find a UPS store to return it — when it’s clearly their screw up. Avoid.

Easy to install, works well
My previous shifter was getting very hard to turn and the chain would never move smoothly from one gear to the next. I replaced the left hand three-speed derailleur with this one and now it functions very smoothly. It was easy to install. All I had to do was remove the old shifter and cable, feed the new cable through the housing and then screw the shifter onto the handlebar. I like the fact that the cable comes pre-installed on the shifter side. I also like the large knob and the solid grip texture. I recommend this three-speed twist shifter for anyone looking for a replacement. It was compatible with my bike so I think it’s a standard spec.

Cheap and effective
This is a front derailleur shifter for a bicycle.Included is a cable so install is pretty much straightforward. There are plenty of instructional videos online and it should be easy enough for anyone with basic DIY skills. Only tools needed are a cable cutter to cut off the excess cable. A dremel with a cutting tool also works good.Price is good. The shifter is made of plastic so it should wear out or break eventually, so I guess quality is just Ok, but it is cheap and easily replaced
